nice bench

yep it is, moors and mataka will run of benji's passes well
i can see them both causeing a lot of damage late in the halfs

Cayless will make some good metres of the bench and Payton will help the defense,Gower wouldnt look out of place in there either

Gower is being converted into a Prop by Sheens it would seem. At least according to my mail.

But the off season training has really shown as well

Simon Dwyer (is that his name..drawn a blank) running off benji works better for me. He was outstanding with his line breaks and offloads in the 20's and he doesn't miss many in defence either. Didn't look too lost in first grade last year.

By the way, I heard Talkin Sport yesterday and there was an email from Crouching Tiger asking what they all thought of Tuquiri and tuiaki on the wings and …..wait for it....Ayshford at fullback. Crouching whats that all about mate?
the short response to that question, was "Ayshford at fullback", "I don't think so". Gotta say I'm with them. One of my lineups had Taumata at fullback which yes is a bit left field, but Ayshford.... i don't think so.

Has he beefed up Smeg????

He has the frame for a big body,he may be a smokey with ten kegs on him.

I am not sure of exact gains Simon but he has made that step in physicality to the professional ranks as has Farlow. Seemingly denser muscle mass and just looking like first graders.

It is hard to quantify as I am not familiar with alot of terminology but it is the same step that Ryan Tandy made from when he was with the Tigers to his start with the Storm

The Team I think Sheens will trot out Round 1…given the opposition is the Manly Scum...

1\. Tim Moltzen
2\. Beau Ryan
3\. Blake Ayshford
4\. Chris Lawrence
5\. Mitch Brown

6\. Benji Marshall
7\. Robert Lui

8\. Keith Galloway
9 Robbie Farah
10\. Bryce Gibbs
11\. Chris Heighington
12\. Gareth Ellis
13, Todd Payten

14\. Liam Fulton
15\. Simon Dwyer
16\. Al Schirnack
17\. Jason Cayless

Be interesting to see how much size Schirnack has put on with a full off season under his belt

yep he will be good along with matt hyland,i just think at this stage mataka is more ready
and he broke the line a few times of benji's passes this year and looked a lot more better in f/g

Brown wasnt great last year on the wing i think he is better suited to FB or Centre,i would probley swap Fulton with Payton too,to give our bench a bit more size(btw it would not surprise me one bit to see fitzy on the wing :frowning🙂
Schirnack is a interresting one,he looked ok last year in 1st grade

I would'nt be suprised to see that side run out R.1.I rekon that will be close to the mark
IMO i don't think thats the strongest side (with the players we have available) we can field. Our bench, which has always been a big problem could be alot better

I wouldn't move Ayshford from the centres. He looked pretty good there to me. Just needs to improve his defence like Lawrence did.

I second that call. That side could be very close to the money. The only real conjecture is one wing spot, lock, and the makeup of the bench IMO.

Ok guys what do you think about this team.

1.Marshall - Imo would be a great full back pop up any where fast more room to move and step and would not have to make as many tackles just my opinion thow
2.Brown
3.Lawrence
4.Ayshford
5.Tuiqiri

6.Taumata
7.Moltzen

8.Galloway
9.Farah
10.Gibbs
11.Ellis
12.Heino
13.Moors

14.Lazarus
15.Payton
16.Cayless
17.A Fifita

I'm hoping that lock is one position that is up for grabs. Two logical contenders, at least in Sheens' mind, seem to be pushing in different directions. Payten mentioned in an article in the pre-season that he is definitely a front rower this year. And Boz seems to be seriously considered for a bench utility/hooking role. I hope this means that there is room for a real smokey – somebody like Mataka, Gower, Flanagan, Moors or even Davis in the starting backrow.

Trying to pick our best forward pack at this early stage is like trying to pick lotto. So many options, so much young talent and some older guys who no doubt will get preferential treatment by Sheens.

No way in the world will Benji play fullback. I like the forward pack you named though.

It's gonna be interesting to see the interchange that Sheens chooses. Do you think it is good to have a utility player on the interchange or just to have 2 second rowers and 2 front rowers. If we do have 2 front rowers and 2 second rowers on the bench then the forwards will get more of a rest and will be more effective when they are on the field, instead of some of them trying to play 80 mins and playing buggered. If Liam starts at lock forward and Robbie goes down injured then Liam could go to dummy half since he has been training a bit in that role.
