2010 Wests Tigers trials.

My GUESS is that Sheens wants to give as much as possible of this game to the real young up & comers more as a reward for hard work. He thinks Taumata is close to his top team (so normally wouldn;t play him) but also realises that with the time Taumata has been out he has to give him as much game experience as possible.
Who knows what goes on in Sheens' mind.

@ benjibrotown, i have see arana play, and hes hot or cold, no where near consistant enough to partner benji, imo arana and lui are too much like benji to be his halves partner. not to mention arans has been playing park footy for the best part of the last 18 months

Park footy? He has been playing Qld Cup which is superior to our NSW state cup. Its probably the 2nd best comp in Australia.

What's the point having this so called first grade trial when we are basically just using our Reserve Graders and Under 20's players. Our Toyota Cup team and NSW Cup teams are having trails anyway so why not just let them play in those teams? Seems a waste of time to fly them up to Mackay. The only good thing about it I suppose is if we have players like Gibbs who are suspended so it's uses up their suspension.

Alien - I hear what you're saying, but must disagree

I think when a NYC or State Cup player put's on a jersey for firsts, is along the lines of a first grader putting on an Origin or Country jersey. The player lifts, valuable experience is gained and the player finishes the game better than he started (the plan anyways) Granted, Cowboys wont be fielding a regular 1sts team either, but it's still a First Grade trial at the end of the day, which gives the boys a taste of what it's like at the 'top'. I'm hoping this is enough to wet the appetite of the younger players to work even harder to crack Firsts. I haven't been this excited by a 'reserve' team ever. My brother will be in a corp box watching the game. I'm a little envious just quietlly

Taumata not starting in the halves is a surprise
Attiude problem perhaps??

Length of time out of the NRL possibly…Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a run against the Roosters or Sharks though.

It's a trial….the first one at that...doesn't matter if he starts or not....geez Attitude problem...pfft

Murdoch the next big thing in the 20's didn't start the first trial..........no big deal.....

Controversial character Arana Taumata has been named on the bench after being sacked by Melbourne Storm last year.
>
The sacking was his fourth in four years and had many assuming his NRL career was over.
>
But the Tigers offered Taumata a lifeline and the talented ball-player has a chance to impress on Friday night.

“I think we got him at the right age. I think we’ve got him on the straight and narrow now,” Gentle said.
>
“He’s got plenty of ability and we’re expecting big things from him.”

But you said it yourself, they are basically a reserve grade team playing against another reserve grade team. So it's not like they are really getting any experience playing against another first grade team. Atleast Gibbs will lose a suspension week so fair enough. Does anyone know if it had to be against a NRL club side though for Gibbs to lose a suspension week?

ive seen some great tries and games @ group 10 level when i used to live in the central west, doesnt mean those players will be in FG any time soon

QLD Cup isn't better. I have watched it on tv. Most of the NSW Cup teams have the fringe firstgraders because they are feeder clubs to firstgrade but you can only say that about a few teams in the QLD Cup…

Qld Cup is as good as any equivalent Comp. In Rockhampton the Comets draw crowds of 4000 every home game and I mean every home game. That's because the ground can only fit that many. Go the CQ BID TEAM.

I'll be at the game on Friday, can't wait.

I have been watching some of the Easts Tigers game highlights from last year. I think Arana Taumata is in some of them:

Well there's souths logan - canberra, sunshine coast - manly, ipswich - roosters to name a few, plus the links which clubs have with broncos, titans and the cowboys… Qld cup is an established comp with established teams.. NSW State Cup has different sides every year.

I went to about 12 games at Ipswich, Burleigh, Norths & Souths Logan last year.

I thought the Roosters feeder team was Newtown. Don't know who they send to Ipswitch. As for established teams, Wikipedia lists 15 teams who have left the Queensland Cup in the last 12 years, including two in 2007\. In any event most of the NSW Cup teams have changed names rather than the teams changing wholesale.

Hey will anyone that's going to the game in Mackay be able to get some video footage or pics of the game and put it on the forum?

For anyone that wants to get to Gosford early the day of the game, there will be Chinese New Year Celebrations happening for the Year Of The Tiger.

GBID - Chinese New Year - Saturday 27th February commencing at 10.00am
Celebrating the Year of the Tiger the lions will take a tour of the city commencing at Gosford Town Centre then onto the Imperial Centre, down Mann Street along William Street Mall into Kibble Park and the stage area. On stage there will be a Chinese Martial Arts demonstration and Chinese Cultural Performances.

Well be fair Benji and Robbie are both now playing in the All Stars game and surely it's better to see these fringe player play together as a unit. If when it comes to SOO time we lose a few players it will give Sheens a good idea who can step up.

Is Robert Lui injured ! if not why is he not playing at 7 in this trial….i see reasoning to keep the main team away at this stage but really Lui should be playing ....
