2012 London Olympics

How good was Bolt? That man is a freak. I dont mind him mouthing off like he does when he always backs it up. He walks the walk.

Good to hear young Watts the long jumper tell the media to 'wake up to themselves' I agree with him. Nothing to be ashamed about winning a silver medal. That means right at that point in time, there was only 1 person in the whole world who was better than you. Something 99.9999% of the population will never be able to say…..yet they hit the social mediums and criticise....wankers....

Can't criticise the athletes, but the process that sees Steph Rice turn up carrying a serious shoulder condition and Leisel Jones clearly overweight, requires investigation and a review of the way in which Swimming Australia are nurturing, managing and developing these athletes. The sport attracts more funding than any other, but has frankly been on the slippery slide since the Sydney Olympics.

I don't believe Australians will tolerate the fall from grace that's occurred in London and I trust that a change of Gov't will again see us within the top five or six nations at future Olympics. Swimming needs to take a back seat in terms of funding and support, with a greater focus on rowing/kayaking, sailing and the cycling programs

Fair point, Eamon Sullivan was also carrying an injury but kept it on the down low until after his 50m final as he didn't want to use it as an excuse. However, we don't have the depth in swimming that we had before Sydney or even Athens, where we could throw 4 people into some events and they'd all be medal chances. An overweight Leisel Jones and an injured Steph Rice were still our best chances. Could you imagine the hoopla if they denied one of our big guns the right to swim when they felt like they could? It's not an origin game where they play 3 a year, you miss an Olympics you don't get another shot for 4 years.

Is this Karma ??

Oscar Pretorius (Blade Runner) Has missed out on running due to a fall from his fellow relay runner

That sucked big time, Happy! The Kenyan crossed right in front of him and tripped him up, then himself as well (that was Karma lol) It was a pretty rugged relay, another bloke hit the deck in a later change over as well.

Someone has to explain this to me

The South Africans are back in the 4 x400 final

They did not complete the race nor did the team that tripped the Soth Africans over

So a team that had nothing to do with them being eliminated was eliminated

What do these IOC officials smoke before they make decisions Seriously :bash

No doubt this decision was made so Pretorius could run

Anyone think that Bill Harragon might be in charge of the IOC after that decision :unamused:

In athletics there are 9 lanes. Most races will use lanes 2-9 (where the bend is a little looser). The decision was that the Kenyan runner who cut in front of the South African was in the wrong and he was disqualified (fair enough). The decision to reinstate the South Africans did not result in a team booted from the finals, instead the South Africans will start from lane 1 and there will be 9 teams in the final.

Ok fair enough MM They hadn't explained what was going on so I assumed ….....

I'm old enough to know better than to assume

Thanks for explaining it

Oh well, only 7 Golds for OZ in the end, but lots of Silver and Bronze! And we did make it into the top 10 - just! Well done to all :stuck_out_tongue:

Just a funny little thing I picked up on - two of Great Britain's most celebrated athletes of the Games were Heptathlon winner Jessica **ENNIS** and 5,000 and 10,000 metre winner Moh **FARAH** - weird eh?

Also, does anyone know why the Marathon runners and Walkers didn't finish their races coming into the stadium? Seeing them coming through the tunnel and down into the stadium for their final lap has always been a highlight. I found the outside finishes a bit of a anti-climax, tbh. Except for the women's race when first and second sprinted in and nearly dead-heated!

Not quite assured a top 10 spot yet. Still a couple of golds still to be won, if Japan or Kazakhstan win one they will pass us. A lot of boxing and wrestling still to be won, wouldn't be shocked if we slipped down to 11\. Not a bad effort I guess, we still produced some great moments.

Best moment of the games was seeing Sally Pearson win

A few other of our athlete should listen her post win interview and find out what true dedication is to winning no matter what

Saddest moment was the Chinese hurdler

To break down injured at back to back Olympics must be horrific and to see him kiss the last hurdle as he hobbled down beside the track could of easily brought tears and some bad memories

Shouldn't the state that wins the most medals get to welcome home the athletes

Again Qld is being taken for granted

No wonder we all have chips on our shoulders

Hahaha, sorry my friend, Mascot is the centre of the universe, _the_ premier Australian airport. Only Fokkers fly into Brisbane don't they? Can't fit the whole Olympic team on a fokker

Don't be eluded Flip… Queensland have flown home from SOO with a bloody heavy trophy for years in a 747.

Just because the NSW Blues can only afford a sescna to fly your boys home as sponsorship doesn't raise enough coin to fund flights doesnt mean our airports are full of fokkers!!!

That's the only time Jumbos fly in and out of Brisbane, Watto - they need it to transport Chris Close home with the QLD team cause the fokkers can't hold the weight!

What Flip

And what about Blocka

He carefully has each leg perched on either side of a plane when he travels with the SOO

I'm sure some of the smaller players fear for their lives because they are afraid Blocker will eat them in their sleep 😱pen_mouth:
