The Preliminary Rounds of the 2014 Tetley's Challenge Cup commenced over the last weekend with the 'Minnows' featuring, Amateur clubs from all regions of the UK faced off to try and make it to the next level in the World's oldest and most Prestigious Knock Out Competition.
The British Army just shaded the British Police in a narrow 34-30 result, South West London Chargers playing at home put up a brave fight against the more experienced Milford Marlins going down 6-24, the unheralded Rochdale Mayfield gave the famous Wigan St Patricks a run for their money losing a tight battle 28-36.
Seasoned campaigners in Hull Dockers showed the difference in divisions with a strong 42-8 win over Siddal FC who usually get through the early rounds, a local derby saw East Leeds FC account for Leeds University in somewhat of a upset while two great amateur sides in Kells and Leigh Miners rounded out the 1st round with Kells scoring a great 26-12 victory.

Last weekend saw Round 4 of the 2014 Tetley's Challenge Cup and it highlighted some interesting results.
It's been mentioned that the Ambitious owner of the Salford Red Devils Marwan Kakoush is extremely interested in signing Benji Marshall, well here's something that might make Benji have a good think, Salford away from home defeated the highly credentialled Hull FC 37-36
This is the same Hull FC that has a few Tigers faves in Gareth Ellis, Jacob Miller etc so If Benji decided to cross over to Salford he could be on the way to a piece of history, Wembley the dream of many a player!.
Huddersfield suffered a heartbreaking 16-17 loss at home to St Helens who are coached by Nathan Brown who is apparently keen to return down under even if it means taking on the NZ Warriors coaching job, boom early season side in the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats were bought back to earth with a mighty thump getting hammered 6-60 by the Leeds Rhinos.
Championship sides in the Rochdale Hornets and the Leigh Centurions fought out a close battle with Leigh prevailing 28-22, Batley Bulldogs made the Castleford Tigers fight all the way before eventuall succumbing 10-48, one of my favourite old Pommy sides in Doncaster thumped the Hemel Stags 68-10, yeehah!.
Keighley Cougars thumped the Barrow Raiders 34-28 in a boilover, Featherstone Rovers comprehensively outclassed the North Wales Crusaders 66-0 wow!, Hull Kingston Rovers continued their poor season losing at home to the Warrington Wolves 24-28.
Super League strugglers Bradford Bulls the former side of Coach Pottsy scored a big but unimpressive win over the Oldham Roughyeds, Bradford desperately need money from this comp for survival, another one of my fave Pomgolian sides the Hunslet Hawks accounted for a higher division side in Workington Town 27-10 at East Leeds Stadium, Yorkshire men musn't travel well to Lancashire!.
Famous old club Halifax made the cashed up Widnes Vikings fight all the way before losing 10-34, in a local derby type situation Championship sides Swinton Lions and the York City Knight fought tooth and nail with Swinton prevailing 31-28.
Former Challenge Cup winners Sheffield Eagles showed that they are capable of going much much further with a 70-28 win over the London Skolars, 40 years ago the Dewsbury Rams were at the top of the English Rugby League but since then they have been on a slow but painful slide and the highlight for them was hosting the Champion Wigan Warriors, despite being at home Wigan proved the gap in class with a 58-6 win.
The London Broncos wretched season went downhill yet again when their last chance for glory was shattered with a 16 point loss in the South of France against the so far unimpressive Catalan Dragons who seem to be missing the legendary Beaver big time.
