2014 Expectations

Why we should be better:
- Unlikely to have anything like the same level of injuries.
- Finally some pace in the back line.
- More established/deeper prop rotation.
- A real halfback.
- New coaching setup, and generally moving towards being Potter's team.

Why we might not be:
- No first-grade quality five eighth (maybe Austin - remains to be seen).
- Back row still very underpowered.
- Rookie half.
- No signs of significant improvement to defensive structure under Potter so far.
- Cap flexibility still crippled by much money being paid to players at other clubs or deadweight at the Tigers.
- Instability at club level, and question marks about head coach within playing squad.
- Missing Marshall.

So yeah, on balance I'd say 11th-13th with some genuine defensive improvement ought to be considered progress.

What I believe will happen next year is a smaller difference between our best and worst game. IMO Brooks is going to be a very good organising Half more than a brilliant game breaking half. Watching the game against Saints live you could see he was 1 or 2 plays ahead at all times and it showed that we did not have a set that just broke down. In the past a little bit of individual brilliance would be followed by we have to score straight away attitude.

I think we will finish somewhere between 6 and 10.

Mid table at best.
I was thoroughly disgusted with our defence all year when I had high hopes this year with Potter on board. My only hope for next year is that Potter is far happier with the new coaching setup and a better defensive coach, whoever that is. Simmons did not impress me at all.

I honestly think that he was hamstrung with quite a few things this year and the Benji saga just proved it.

When he arrived, the preseason stuff was all organised and the "left behind" coaches had their usual roles to play. He admitted as such.

Unfortunately, he now only has half a season to really show what he can do. Realistically he probably has only half of that - if we aren't winning more than we are losing by round 6, he is gone.

We showed good defence in patches but it has to last for 80 minutes not 30.

Guys

I think think the post Benji era will see a markedly different team both in defense and attack.

Whilst loosing the individual flair that can change a game I hope that we will become more Melbourne and Manly like over the next two years.

2015 should be a year of smiles

A lot of what happens throughout the season is built on the foundations layed in the pre-season. Potter's pre-season preparation in 2013 was limited at best.
With a new roster and a new staff coupled with a thorough pre-season schedule, I'm expecting the tigers to make a bit of an impact in 2014\. At least a finals gig.

Benji's goalkicking was pretty good in the last couple of years, his big problem was missing the easy ones though, he kicked plenty from the sideline.

I,,m expecting a huge improvement right from the get go…Potter will have probable 8 rounds to impress or the knives will be out! A huge off season will be on the cards and I would say to make the side from round 1 the players will Have to work hard.I,m predicting if the injury gods are favourable a top 8 finish.

I would like to think the Tigers get off to a better start in 2014, but would be more likely to build slowly to a better second half of the season. Patience may be required

Top 10.

What do you think will allow us to compete with those top 4 sides, happy?

Quality back row , quality 6 and 7 ,quality centres ,1000 % improvement in defence and absolutely no injuries

If we don't improve dramatically in these positions we won't do much better than last season

Thing is, if with the squad next year with no injuries we can only come (let's say) 8th. I don't see how we'll get much better, the pack will get a bit better as they age, moses will come up but beyond that i can't see us rising dramatically from an 8th or 9th finish next year to a top 4 by 2016 without ANOTHER major shakeup, and it'll probably have to come in our defense but what will make us amazing defenders between 2014 and 16?

Defence is attitude and commitment If we have the right mindset our defence will improve

Manly is the perfect example

Maybe players with bigger physique might also help.

I'm 50-50 tbh. I doubt the youngsters we have will be able to play a full season of the NRL given that they're all 20,21\. Mental fatigue will play a big part in our second half of the season.

The new S&C staff we have needs to mAke sure our cubs are getting into good habits at the start of their careers to have long and healthy careers IMO.

I'm assuming sirro will be the leader of the young ones. Get him to train hard and lead from the front and the rest will follow.

simple for me, the defense must improve dramatically.
with David Kidwell coming up from storm, hopefully wests tigers can follow some of there structures / regimes

and not to push the pass when not required.
take the tackle instead of turning the ball over to the opponent :unamused:

Like 'cq' I'm expecting middle of the table and I'd be happy with that as a first year team. I'm expecting to see errors from inexperienced players and I won't be too concerned by that as long as they are not stupid repeat mistakes.
One major change I am expecting is attitude. New coach; hungry for success. New young guns; hungry or success. Revitalised seasoned players, playing hard to keep their spots. If Potter can turn the hunger into aggression it will go a long way to getting us there.

Like in 2010 through to 2012? We weren't building there we were gunning for the title and unfortunately missed out chance. Now in 2013 and 2014 we will be rebuilding for another shot.
