2015 Marquee signing announced

No 'marquee' signings will likely mean more of the same from our forward pack. Yes, we have some new recruits but is there enough to change the poor defensive culture of our NRL team/

A single top line player can actually have a big impact on a team and the young up and comers, and that is what we need IMO otherwise we are highly likely to see more of the same from the team that had one of the worst defensive records last year.

The Chooks had some real young talent and they bolstered them with Maloney,SBW and Jennings and won the title

And coincidently have Storms recruitment manager….

Yup - a great balance between the two … And purchased in the areas they were lacking.

And funnily enough Maloney is off contract at the end of this season and is exactly the five eight we need Good defender smart hands ,straightens their attack

Keiran Foran also off contract at the end of 2014 see above good defender ,smart hands tough as nails

I'll take either of these blokes thanks Mr Mayer

I would hope that come 2015 we are ready to unleash Mitchell Moses.

I'm just not convinced that Moses will shake off these constant injuries

He's getting injured playing 9's and NYC all the time

NRL is another level again

Happy Tiger I think both are actually signed until the end of 2015 which means we might have to wait until June next year to sign a 5/8th. Another option is Jarrod Mullen who appears to be off contract this year.

IMO he is at least another 2 years away for even being considered

What's happening with all the money we have freed up from Benji leaving then?
As well as the increase in salary cap.
Surely we have room to sign someone significant from elsewhere.

We probably do,just look at souths and easts going at it after Fifita($750k a year),we surely have money left,Mayer just doesn't want to promise something he can't deliver.

750k will be pretty standard price for a top line prop in a few years time wouldnt it?
We could probably match that, but its just about assessing the market and comparing what's there to what we need.
Fifita would add a lot our side.

Yep Zero Tackle confirms that your correct

Confused though , when I checked it recently I distinctly remember seeing Wade Graham's name with the other two in 2014

Wade Graham is still in the 2014 group ,I didn't add him to the list as I think he is a better back rower than 6

Apologies for the misleading info , my bad

The Chooks get their man because they pay overs for them. I have it on good authority that Sonny is on $1.2 a year, but I bet you he is on the books for $500K. Didn't the CEO say after the Grand Final that it cost a million dollars to get him here? I bet the NRL know all about it too but turn a blind eye to keep him in the game.

Jennings was on big $$$ at Penrith, and I don't think he went over for chicken feed. It has always happened, Fulton, Fittler, Morley.

I don't want a marquee signing. I would prefer 3 or 4 good fringe or up and coming First Graders like Ava was. Why pay big bucks to get them and have them not perform. The player is rarely as good when he goes to a new club for significant dollars.

You know the funny thing about us not having any new big signings, is to sit back and watch other clubs with great rosters, like the roosters say that they will make a play for Andrew Fifita. Well were the hell does all are money go to are we paying so much over to keep untried juniors that we can not bring in some good talent. We may have some good juniors but lets face it there is not much coming through in the forward dept that will make us a threat we need at least 2 good forwards if we want to win a grand final, our backs are great but without muscle up front forget it.

"Franchise player" has a very different meaning in the NFL to most sport and I don't think it reflects what you are trying to say. A player tagged with franchise status is a player that the team is preventing from going onto the free market. This is usually done when the team and player fail to come to terms on a contract, the team can then franchise that player and prevent them from joining another team. The player is well paid for that season, either at the average of the top 5 players in his position or 120% of his previous years contract.

okay, thanks very much for explaining that cochise. having an incumbent player as a marquee just reminded me of their franchise player, but i didnt understand the correct reasons they placed that tag on them.
i thought that they were just players at a team that they placed a great deal of value on and paid billions of dollars to!
i didnt know it usually happened when they were holding out - is this correct?

thanks for explaining it so well. i appreciate the way you corrected me too! :righton:

It seems to me like Mayer is treating fans & members like mugs…signing Woods this year and saying he's next year's signing won't do much for memberships

So who was this year's signing?

Farah??

the fans are full of wind Tony… no use signing a marquee player when we havent sorted the wheat from the chaff in our own ranks. We arent even too sure what we have on hand, so how the hell can we look for a star to complement them?

we spend that 700k resigning Brooks, Moses, Woods, Brown, Galloway, and Simona as well as buying Taupau, Paterson and Austin.

I mean, if you want we can swap brooks and woodsy for Thaiday? but personally i prefer the former 2 players

Brooks and Moses ate benjis money plus, if they both make KPI incentives… if Brooks alone comes close to targets then they will easily cover Bunjis salary between them.

No we definitely don't need Thaiday. Personally I think that Wests Tigers have spent that 700k very wisely this year. All the club needs to do now is to focus on the year ahead.
