Wests Tigers have confirmed the 2015 NYC Holden Cup squad for the upcoming season under new Head Coach Brett Kimmorley.

Once again the Club is set to field a strong team, with familiar faces from the 2014 squad returning for a second season in the likes of Watson Heleta, Tyler Cassel, Eli Levido, Jeremy Marshall-King, Te Maire Martin, Matthew Woods, Hala Masila and John Tohi.

Exciting centre Marion Seve is also back on deck after missing the majority of last year with a shoulder injury; while fellow second year players Jayden Wheelhouse, Hayden Johnston, Sione Alofi, Jacob Follent, Peter Ta’auso, Dwayne Lemafa, Tom Satterthwaite, Jamian Iroa and Thomas Grealy will be eager to secure a place in the starting side this season.

Another batch of exciting Keebra Park students have made their way to Concord Oval - including JJ Felise, Tiawharangi Aranui, Te Kapua Murray and Ryland Jacobs.

Other new players to look out for include Australian Schoolboy representative Jacob Liddle, Bayley Sironen (younger brother of Curtis), Wests SG Ball forward Mark McCormack, NSW CCC players Jack Wheelhouse and Junior Tatola amongst others.

Kimmorley, who played 307 NRL games over a 16-year career, has been impressed by the talent within the 2015 squad after spending the last few months training the team.

“I think it’s quite a good squad that has been put together,” he said. “Some exciting players have come down from Keebra Park and nearly half the squad have played some NYC already.”

“It’s important to have that good understanding, some of them have tasted NYC and know what it is about; so that has helped us to have a really good pre-season so far.”

“They are all contending for spots and it’s a strong 40-man squad so it’s going to be very competitive.”

Trial matches will kick-off for the NYC team on February 6 in Camden when they take on the Parramatta Eels.

The 2015 NYC season officially gets underway on March 7 against the Gold Coast Titans, with Wests Tigers aiming for a fifth consecutive appearance in the Holden Cup finals series.

Look up for Jacob Liddle is a good kid.

He is a good player.

I really like Wheelhouse as well, in fact I picked him to be the Aus Schools hooker, unfortunately he missed the carnival through injury.

Some healthy competition is great for the team.

Looks a good squad to me.

In the future I think Brooks will be pushed into 9 position Moses into 7 position.

IMHO, the 1st choice for #9 (after Farah) is Cherrington, and than Halatau.
I think Brooks & Moses are our preferred halves, with Te Martin as
the first replacement.

Werent some on here saying Seve was on par with sione mata'utia few years ago?

I thought he outplayed him at the carnival, and said as much here.

I thought it was a weak age group TBH and am surprised at how quickly SIone as come on.

Brooks is at very long odds to go to hooker.

Cherrington is heir apparent to Farah, but feel the kids we have in NYC may push him or come into calculations if we lose Cherrington to another club

Looking forward to seeing more of Seve. He looks so balanced.
Wonder why Martin isn't in the 25\. He was phenominal last year (except maybe is defense)

Martin is in the NYC squad the Kid is only 19 …I assume tsjonathan means the Top 25 NRL Squad

Seve was the best schoolboy player in 2013\. He also scored 5 tries in his first 4 games last season before his injury. A definite cut above NYC.

One of Teddy, Martin or Moses need to learn to play centre. We need to keep all three. Martin could be better than both Brooks and Moses. Perhaps Moses has to learn a new trade for the good of the team.

We need to re-sign Martin for as long as possible, even just a one year extension, to see how he fits in amongst our other talented kids. Expect a lot of clubs to start throwing him a lot of cash very soon if we don't have him locked up!

Cherrington re-signed for 2-3 years last season so he's tied up til like 2017-18.

These guys should win the comp, or at least make the final. The backs are much better than last year's squad.

Mason Cerruto should be first choice Fullback in my opinion. Played with him last year for Camden Rams in the Group 6 First Grade competition. At just 18 years old he was getting Player's Player every game, carving up opposite teams with his scoots out of dummy half and his strong ball running. Rarely missed a tackle on much more experienced and bigger opposite players. His preffered position is Fullback though and knowing his work ethic and ability I think he will be there come Round 1.

It interests me that on one hand some fans really worry about quality first-grade recruitment and the odd marquee signing, but then threads like this tell us that possibly we cannot retain all our promising juniors.

For every Blair, Thompson or Austin we release, there is more money about for these youngsters who may be long-term first grade options.

Or for every Blair, Thompson or Austin we retain, there is the possibility of a junior moving to and excelling at another club.

Personally I prefer to take a chance on the kids we have cultivated, rather than stick with known and modestly talented first graders.

It's not just about money though when it comes to the juniors.
It's also about whether or not they'd get an opportunity. It would be great to have Te Maire Martin as a backup half in case of injury but he will more than likely be good enough to be a regular first grader elsewhere.

the thing is - that of all the kids we 'cultivate' only a few make it. where else to look. depth means business.
