Biggest surprise for me is Laurie at 6 and not fullback. When they signed him they talked about him as a fullback but maybe they just wanted him in the team somewhere

Maybe with AD suspended in round 1 Laurie being considered for 5/8

I think MCK would make a great State Cup captain as he wouldn't being much of NRL

No way, Madden will be 5/8. Think they are wanting to see what Davis brings to the table, we need a backup FB/winger.

Maybe it’s a more familiar role , rather than the hole running edge forward. That’s way more like an outside centre , in Union .

Yep , I think he’s very capable . The high ball stuff is just confidence , as much as anything else . If you think your going to make a meal of it , then that’s exactly what you are going to do . I’d say the best backs just think “yep this is mine “. Sounds simple , but keeping the dark voices out of your head is a skill unto itself .

That's a good point, much easier for him to play lock than second row as a rugby convert who hasn't played much league. He's a big body but I'm interested to see how mobile he is - apparently he's sat down some of the boys at training which is promising

Seems like it could be a thing . I know he’s a rangey , skill full lad , but that doesn’t always mean hole running edge forward. It makes sense when you think about it from a “how did they sell it to this guy” type of thinking . Because Garner , and Luvi are 24 , Blore is 20, so it’s hard to see a real pathway to first grade there . Honestly he’d have had an easier chance at the cowboys . But if you are talking , lock , I mean there’s a clear void there right now , let alone into the future . I’m purely speculating , but it’s 100 ? plausible.

He might hit like a truck . With a decent motor. He’d played flanker in Union , which means a whole lot of work getting from breakdown to breakdown . Look I could be way off the mark here , but the logic seems pretty sound .

Apparently the first 13 players on the list , are the starting team ie. Roberts - Davis is playing fullback through to Tui Simpkins at lock .

Backup FB is my concern, and i think they want to see how Davis goes. We need cover for this position.

We have Laurie and Mbye.

Laurie at FB, mbye not capable last year at 1 . Good utility and hope he gets his form back. We need someone capable in case of injuries or suspension to Laurie. Fullback is where we suffered badly last year.

Disagree, he is a good fullback if he can get his issues under the highball under control.

Mbye is a talent when he wants to be. He is nearing the end of his contract and has been shopped around for 2 yrs. I expect a big year from him this year,but his future is uncertain. 1,6,7and 9 are crucial , and we have backup for 6,7, and 9. Last year we had Momo,Mbye,and Doeihie, who not only did not gain ground on kick returns,but gave little assistance to the halves either through the ruck or on the edges.None of them were good in this position.
