Wests Tigers recorded its seventh straight victory in the Toyota Cup competition with a superb 24-13 come from behind win over South Sydney at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

It was the team's best win of the season under extreme adversity. The win also ended the Rabbitohs' five game winning streak.

Wests Tigers went into the match without full-back Jake Mullaney, who was ruled out with tonsilitis. Mullaney has lost a few kilos from his light frame but is expected to be fit to play Newcastle next Friday night.

Winger Sama Sauvao moved to full-back and will take over the goal-kicking duties.Monikura Tikinau was called up to replace Sauvao on the wing.

Wests Tigers had the first attacking opportunity in the opening two minutes after a crossfield kick by half-back Jay Florimo was spilt by the Rabbitohs to give the Wests Tigers another six tackles.

Wests Tigers attacked the Rabbitohs line before a grubber kick on the last tackle by hooker Dean Parata saw a South Sydney player regather and beat two defenders to get the ball back in play.

Souths first attacking chance came in the fifth minute when a kick downfield by half Adam Reynolds was chased through by centre Dylan Farrell before Sauvao forced the ball dead.

The Rabboths opened the scoring in the next set after a short ball by five-eighth Matt Mundine put second-rower Hayden O'Donnell in to a gap to offload to full-back Malcolm Webster to score out wide.

Reynolds converted the try from the sideline for a 6-0 lead after eight minutes.

A mistake by winger Faleula Finau in putting his foot on the sideline in taking a line drop out gave Souths a scrum feed just past the half-way line. From the scrum feed, Reynolds kicked the ball downfield with his centres chasing.

The ball sat up perfectly for centre Dylan Farrell to take to score behind the posts. Reynolds converted the try for a 12-0 lead after 17 minutes.

Sauvao left the field following the try with a left ankle injury after he injured it in returning the ball back from a kick just minutes earlier.

Souths extended their lead to 13-0 when Mundine kicked a 30 metre field goal in the 38th minute. The score remaind that way until half-time.

Wests Tigers opened their account when the ball was spread left for centre Limoni Kamuta to score out wide. Patrick Politoni failed to convert the try for a 13-4 scoreline.

Two minutes later, hooker Dean Parata bolted from dummy half to beat five defenders in an acrossfield run to score next to the posts. Politoni converted the try for a 13-10 scoreline after 52 minutes.

Wests Tigers hit the lead for the first time when five-eighth Bodie Clarke did a run around with forward Vahu Pulu before Clarke put winger Monikura Tikinau over in the corner for a 14-13 scoreline. The try was not converted.

Two minutes later, centre Limoni Kamuta scooted out from dummy half to race 80 metres to score in the corner for an 18-13 lead.

Wests Tigers sealed the game when the team's strongest man Neil Begovich managed to get the ball down in a three man tackle to score under the posts for a 22-13 scoreline after 78 minutes.

Politoni converted the try for a 24-13 scoreline at full-time.

Maybe I'm not with the times, and I realise this is a bit off topic, but does anyone else find it weird that Roqica was playing Wing last year, and is now a front rower?

No….......... not if you have watched him from the start of the year....really growing into it to....

Turned up at half time for this 1 with good judges say Souths where all over them....I looked at them at full time an said.....Right...

Great win by the 20's built on defence.....Take note Sheens.....

I reckon Neil Begovich could step up to first grade and be a better option than some of our current forwards. I know it`s a big task for a young prop, but he looks the goods. The best thing about that is it would give an even better front row prospect in Matthew Groat a spot in the Toyota Cup side.

They still have Aaron Woods to come back into the side too. At the moment the 20's are the only shining light at the Wests Tigers.

41% of possession in the first half and conceded 13 points. Probably unheard of in 20's.

That is what won the game.

Possession was always going to square up and Tigers had 60+% in second half.

First half defence went a very long way towards securing victory.

Well done to all involved.

I keep hearing we have an unbelievable amount of talent in the front row in our junior ranks. Good God I can't wait until they all come up to grade.

To go with Fifita we have;

A Woods
N Begovich
B Murdoch
M Groat
J Roqica
M Talolua
I Lui

Plus some very good reggies props too.

Why we are playing with Gibbs, Fifita, Payten and Moors as our props I don't know. Payten has no impact and Moors should be the bench position Flanagan is occupying. Surely we could afford Murdoch instead of Moors and Begovich/Gower et al instead of Payten.

Begovich and Murdoch are way off the pace and would die playing FG. Yes they are big and strong but fitness-wise and speed-wise they will be found out far too easy. I'd be having them train with the fulltime squad next offseason but they would only last 5-10 minutes in FG if used now IMO, and the team would suffer more because of this.

I think Begovich would handle a bench spot….

Murdoch...Not yet...
