Once finals start I'm a death rider. I watch games to see teams lose and stars cry.
I was born a magpie at Auburn Hospital. My parents both lived up the road from lidcombe oval, dad’s side fully magpies and mums side 2 were first grade nrl referee’s and the rest of them were magpies or tigers. So it’s club first and foremost for me. Attached to the team early on when we were fibro and everyone was against us, and we played tough footy.100% a fan of the game before the club.
The club was one that I chose 40 years ago so I had some sort of ownership within the game.
I do not live in any of the clubs catchment areas. I do not know any of the players. It was pure dumb luck that I chose The Balmain Tigers to follow back when I was 7 and Im pretty sure that was only because of the colours and mascot. At the time, all my freinds chose the popular sides such as Parra and Canterbury. I could have very easily followed suit if not for some success in the following years.
So no, I dont have the us v them mentality. The game is far more important to me than the club and it really upsets me that my club is such an embarrassment to the code. Its the laughing stock of its peers and a joke used by the media to make money.
Yes I support another team. The Cowboys are my local. People who played for clubs I have watched over the years in junior and park levels are now running around in the top grade. I own more merchandise for them than the Tigers. I go to more live games for them than the Tigers by far. If Wests Tigers were kicked out of the comp tomorrow morning, I would not care less. Probably be a Cowboys member by Friday arvo to be honest.
I wont walk away from this club as I have invested 40 years into it, being an out of town member for many years. My sanity is intact as I have a good club that I follow just as closely. Thats because the game is far more important to me that this club.
Especially Parramatta, but especially Roosters.Once finals start I'm a death rider. I watch games to see teams lose and stars cry.
Haven’t fully checked out. I enjoy our victories, but just don’t get as upset as I used to when we lose. My weekly mood is not dictated by these fellas anymore.I was born a magpie at Auburn Hospital. No offence, but to me you’ve already checked out on us, but each to their own. I wish I could, maybe I’d have won more GF’s, but I can’t.
If ya weekly mood is effected that much by your team loosing a game then I reckon your life focus is a little out of whack.Haven’t fully checked out. I enjoy our victories, but just don’t get as upset as I used to when we lose. My weekly mood is not dictated by these fellas anymore.
I'm always salty after a loss for a day or two.If ya weekly mood is effected that much by your team loosing a game then I reckon your life focus is a little out of whack.
I have been guilty of some stand-up slanging matches with the TV, but generally I get over it pretty quick. It’s just a game at the end of the day.
When it comes to supporting the nrl or Tigers, I was born a magpie and they are now the Tigers, I was not born nrl. I am a very loyal person so I can’t change teams once I have chosen, like the Swans in the afl. Except I have not been able to choose one of the Sydney teams in the T20 and will cheer both.
Yeah I get a little annoyed about it for a couple of days and everyone’s got have their two bobs worth when they see ya but it’s a game so I try to keep the balance.I'm always salty after a loss for a day or two.
Not all out angry but definitely somewhat effected.
Yeah, anyone that knows you like Tigers love their little dig... "what happened the other night?"Yeah I get a little annoyed about it for a couple of days and everyone’s got have their two bobs worth when they see ya but it’s a game so I try to keep the balance.
