3 into No 7 doesn't go !

A very interesting situation has been developing at the Wests Tigers with the halfback position.

Initially Lui looked the goods to make the spot his own with the threat to his position being Moltzen once he regained his fitness.

Now that situation has been reversed with the added spice of Miller being added to the mix.

Long term we won't and carn't keep all 3\. One will leave to promote their career and get regular first grade time.

Sheens seems to like Lui - Benji reckons Moltzen will be an origin player and Miller appears to be a real propect !

I don't have a favourite but would probably lean towards Moltzen and Miller long term but it will be very interesting to see how the club handles the situation.

An option possibly is if Lui develops into a lock but Heighno still has a few years left in that role.

Oh the good position we are in !!!!

Lui is by far the halfback in front at the moment. Plus, Benji/Sheens seem to think he is the best 7\. That for me makes Lui our number 1 priority over Moltz and Miller.

I just hope we can keep all 3! Moltz can play in the backline or 14 and Lui could definitely become a 13 in the future. Miller certainly looks the goods as a 7!

Looking at how much our depth has been tested already. I honestly think players aren't going to look at if they are in the top 17 anymore as our first string halfback etc., but more so the top 25 and how much potential that group has to win the premiership.

Lui at 13 Look at all the other 13"s in NRL Do you honestly think he could handle the workrate and still be effective . NO

With Miller still well into development, unless he is poached by another club, I honestly believe Moltzen is the odd man out. He has thrived in the halves and was a weapon in that position prior to his injury.

The Central Coast will court Moltzen as part of their recruitment drive.

I think and feel Lui should by and far be the first choice half.

Lui by the length of the Flemington straight over Moltzen.

For Mine Lui has shown to be far more natural number 7\. His passing name is better, long and short kicking game better, and overall involvement far better. Moltzen to me is a dangerous ball runner with decent passing and kicking skills.

Lui is a natural halfback and I think we have a genuine 3 pronged attack when he is in the side. Our shape is better when he is in there and he has taken stronger ownership over the team since his debut.

Someone posted this in another thread as a team for 2013

1\. Moltz
6\. Benji
7\. Miller
9\. Farah
13\. Lui

That to me, sound awesome!! Just Lui is a worry though, dont think he will grow enough in 2 years.

I think a lot of posters are judging Miller too early. He has had 15 minutes of first grade.

At the moment I still feel Moltzen will end up at fullback and Lui will remain at 7.

Great position to be in!!!

Miller is 18 so he will have to wait his time with the odd taste of NRL to keep him biting at the bit…

Lui @ 7 offers more behind our forward pack than Moltzen, and I feel compliments the team better.

The problem is Moltzen has far more talent as a footballer/athlete, and must be in the team somewhere. I feel Moltzen can develop into a quality Fullback, playing a similar role to what Lockyer did at Brisbane, chiming in as a third ball-player. He has shown in the few games this year his one-on-one defence is improving and looks set to be groomed into that number 1 mould.

For 2011, I'm not fussed while McKinnon is playing well, and I'm more than happy to have a genuine attacking back on the bench. I think with another 20 weeks of football under his belt, Tim Moltzen @ 14 equals Premiership!!!

I said in the future HT. Don't you think that players can't develop? or that they just stay the same for ever?

Lui is big enough to be an effective 13 and his defense is only getting better.

Miller has @ 3 more years to grow and develop…

I am dirty on the Lui injury front, I dont know if its bad luck or what. I just want to see Lui with more than a handful of games in the No7 to see if he is the real deal (I think he is our 1st choice at the mo by far).

I really like motz and want him to succeed at the Tigers.

This thread does my head in, I would love to know the truth of what Coach Sheens thinks about the subject.

But Watto, where does that leave Mullaney…..

I really dont know… He is just sitting there, abit like Lazarus I suppose. I think the Lui/Moltzen situation technically leaves him in State Cup...

I've always had a feeling Moltz wont sign beyond 2012... He could get some big big dollars on the open player market and will be a revelation at 6 at any club, and even a 7 behind packs like Brisbane, Canberra & Warriors... How much will he get at the Tigers if he stays with a guy like Benji Marshall in front of him???

Someone at this club deserves a big fat paycheck for ensuring we have so much talent... I cant recall any club having such a huge talent base in the last 10-15 years!!!

Lui is big enough to be at 13 but unfortunately he can't tackle.
As for him being better than Moltzen? Not now - not ever.
Not sure where Sheens wants them but for people to say Benji prefers Lui over Moltzen makes me wonder where he will end up seeing Benji also thinks Moltzen will play SOO.
If you watch Lui's games closely you will see a big forward shadowing him in defence the entire game ( usually Ellis).
I know it's common for forwards to do that so the halves don't need to do too much tackling but in this case it's because he's a jersey grabber at best.

There is the possibility of…

13\. Lui
7\. Miller
14\. Moltzen

I reckon Lui is headed for lock, he is pretty solid for his age and I reckon his defence is getting better all the time - anyone remember a certain young centre that couldn't tackle to save his life four years ago?

Fittler and Anasta to name just two are guys that succesfully made the switch to lock and I think Lui is on that course.

I am not saying however that I would dump Heighnington from the 13 a this stage, who knows what might happen in the future though. This all again shows we have too many good players!

Robert Lui might want to return home as well to his home and play for the cowboy, i think in the long term moltzen to fullback and robert lui at halfback and jacob miller in NYC or on the bench in first grade

I said in another thread before the season started, that Lui has vision and a kicking game,Moltzen a step and pace, but Miller has all of the above and can tackle,he would be my long term 7,plus he is a good goal kicker.
Really it is a no contest in my eyes,if Sheens would start the kid and let him go,then people would see what a talent we have on our hands.
