5.3 Billion deal for NRL 2027

Need to keep it out of the hands of fools and those with brain dead ideas like splitting it up amongst multiple broadcasters.

Never ceases to amaze me the dim wittedness that exists in the world.
Just greed. They don’t care about the sport or the people watching it. Only the money flowing in for them.

Foxtel told me they don't have technicians any more and the satellite is now redundant.

All new IQ boxes will be through wi fi not the satellite, so essentially streamed not connected to the Satellite... so you'll need an internet connection to watch anything.

One of the appeals of Foxtel, was Showcase as it had most of the HBO shows but since HBO also has branched out with their own streaming, they lost that, which is why they offer to include HBO Max in the plan - for now. That isn't going to be forever though, they have an agreement in place as they had HBO stuff exclusively but like anything, it'll eventually end.

Yeah they include Netflix, but I believe that's in the premium plan, only. I've seen electricity companies also offer Netlix included also.

The content of Foxtel has really fallen off.
They don't get all the movies like they use to as now they're all scattered across Paramount+, Netflix, Amazon, etc. Even UFC has gone to Paramount+ with Foxtel only offering Pay Per View/ Main Events [No Pre-Lims].

I honestly think Foxtel is dying. You want Pawn Star re-runs and the great British bake off and to still pay $100 a month? I've swapped to Kayo. Haven't had any issues with it yet, this is the second year. $30 is ok, only watch rugby league, boxing and sometimes NFL.

you need to pay for the repair if the satelite yourself, e.g. foxtel will not do this anymore.
One of the appeals of foxtel via IQ box is no internet no worries you can still watch it.
IQ5 if you have satelite you set up with both, cable plugs will always be on the boxes for both satelite and internet set up works well
Foxtel also offers a loyalty discount i have been with them for 25 years so you get a discount for continuous service too which is a decent amount off the monthly package.
As for HBO they will not lose that they will keep that going long term.
Netflix could be a different story though in the future.
Dazn will jack the kayo prices up for sure, what are people going to do watch nine coverage of 3 games no way.

Foxtel has 100% lost its appeal.
The younger audience dont care about "Selling Houses Australia", they like Demon Hunter on Netflix and Twitch streamers.

Foxtel has its user, which is the older crowd.
They're losing more users each year, a few are holding on, because of the convenience and loyalty, but once they're gone - there'll be no new users running to sign up.

Foxtel knows its coming, that's why they branched off with Binge and Kayo.

I see the appeal with Kayo and live sport, Binge not so much when you have netflix stan paramount etc .

Easier for them to justify price hikes on kayo that an iq box. Little by little year after year captive market just wait

Hubbl was a failure for them

Binge is a Foxtel service, with not a lot to offer.

Foxtel use to be peak, it had everything.

FX > Now owned by Disney
UFC > Paramount+
ESPN > still around but owned by Disney now
Showcase > HBO, this isn't going to stay free forever, no chance. Premium product.
Walking Dead > AMC / Stan (Australia)
A league > Paramount+

Writing is on the wall...
Their losing subscribers every year and as stated, the oldies who haven't made the transition to streaming won't be around forever.

The decline is already happening.

I kind of think DAZN will make a play for Rugby Union rights in 2030 bring that back and also Soccer A League and EPL

DAZN will need to do deals with HBO etc that will continue from what I heard from marketing people within foxtel they need to keep it no matter the cost they will subsidise to have differentiation from say Binge / kayo and foxtel.
Foxtel no longer employs technicians so that is a cost saving for them
Kayo will increase slowly year on year just wait
captive market people will pay

I don't particularly care whether the rights end up with Foxtel, Netflix, Amazon or someone else. What matters is that every game in the round is available on a single platform. That's the simplest system, it's the easiest for supporters, and it's the one that puts fans first.

Somehow this has turned into a discussion about the content people consume outside of footy. Everyone has enough choice to pick the movie/TV content they want for 9.99 a month...then sport is available on 9/Kayo/Fox either free or as a or part of a subscription.

People are deluded if they think their 9.99 will cover a $5 billion plus broadcast deal...you'll just be taking your $30 a month from Kayo and handing it to Netflix or Amazon.

Until DAZN bought Foxtel, there would have been an argument to keep the game with Australian companies, but the gloves are off now seeing as DAZN is UK based. I'd love to see a truly Australian provider in the future.

next step nrl will probably buy in to super league then Dazn gets its cash worth there too

foxtel pays your netflix sub and hbo sub
If you have an IQ box
Am I reading this right, you're saying Foxtel pays for a Netflix subscription if so this is wrong.

When Fox allowed the Netflix app to be used through their platform there was a deal to bring in new subscribers where it was free for a few months only, pretty sure this has elapsed long ago.

You can add Netflix to your bundle for $17 and save $4 for a standard sub.

you are incorrect
netflix standard is included in the premium package
my netflix is included in my foxtel iq5 package so is hbo max plus I recieve 1 free iq box (have 2 boxes)
The hbo and netflix does have adds though, it's is not premium
Plus you get the foxtel Now App

if you have a premium foxtel package and you are paying for netflix I suggest talk to them

Yes but that's what takes it to a higher price, it's not free.

HBO is at the moment I can stream it on a lower Foxtel plan for free but not sure how long it will last considering Netflix bought it, unless a deal was struck. https://www.foxtel.com.au/shop.html
