500K can be spent better :)

I wouldn't spend 400k on Reynolds. It's his first year, lets wait and see what he has next year. The perfect half for us would have been Wallace. Good organiser and tough. If that sort of coin was going to be spent, i would want it spent on someone proven over more than 3/4 of a season.

We have a half back his name is benji we need a 3rd prop and always have in the end missing Lewis is ok allows us to forward load some of our other contracts and then get a better younger back rower or prop in 2013

Are all you clowns on here kidding? I would give nothing more than for the tigers to sign a halfback, but while Sheens is in charge and Benji has two legs it is not going to happen.
Sheens of all people should know the value if a half as the only flags he's won have been with Ricky Stuart and Scott Prince!
I for one I am sick of hearing about if we sign this guy or that guy… people let's get real! No matter what we put on the table we are never going to get a Cronk or Inglis, and blokes like Hogkingson couldn't even organize a root in a brothel with a fist full of fifties. It's time to move on!
2012 according to the bookies was ours to lose. And to date we have lost it due to our lack of depth up front not because of of a halfback.
Currently with have big red and the woodsman who pump out big minutes and I love both. But because of the lack of depth up front with have no impact, we have guys like BMM trying to smash it up the guts when they could be dominating on the fringe.
Let's be real, if we had depth up front we could have covered the loss of big red early in the season and had another 2 to 3 games in the win column.
On top of everything we need impact up front and heart. Which means bye bye Timmy Moltzen, as talented as you can be, you are weak as piss and would struggle to run oranges for under 9s.

Great post Jason. Teams should be rewarded for bringing on their own halfbacks. The fact that we cannot is a reflection on our system more than our ability to recruit.

I dont want us to buy one, we have enough talent to bring on our own

If we could all the right supports (persoanlly, I mean) around Robert Lui, I would have him back tomorrow. Not sure of his status with the NRL or NQ etc, but he would be very cheap and would have the incentive to resurrect a career at an age when there's plenty of time to do so. Particulalrly so, if it was for one year with options…both for Robert and WT to look for something more permanent from 2014.

While I would of loved him. Luke Lewis might be worth 500k for 1-2 years, but he won't be worth anything near that in four years. Look at Civoniceva or Hindmarsh even, Parra are playing him dollars other clubs are playing for the likes of Lyon, Bird, etc but he is nowhere near worth that as he isn't the player he was four years ago. Not to mention four year contracts are very risky as it is. We've already got Blair who is a long term risk at the cost we have him, and the Sharks signed Tupou for that long which turned out to be a flop.

Look at the players available. We could throw that money at a fullback like Kevin Locke, or Greg Inglis (Maybe 600k needed, but id rather pay that for GI than 500 for LL).

End of the day a 1 or a 7 are a much better long term option than a soon to be 29 year old back rower.

Or we could throw it at a half. The likes of Todd Carney, Jamie Soward, Gareth Widdop, Mitchell Pearce, Scott Prince, Adam Reynolds, Jeff Robson,Johnathan Thurston are available at the end of 2013 and would all be long term more valuable than a Luke Lewis. Some of them we may even get for 300k etc and be able to sign another good player at 200k. Also a better all round signing than Lewis.

Do you think Ellis should have been paid 500k a year, with the beauty of hindsight?

No.

Different scenario anyway. Luke Lewis turns 29 in 2 weeks. Meaning the first year of his contract he will turn 30…. in the fourth year of his contract he will be 33 by the seasons end.

I think front row is where we are lacking.
Galloway may not last much longer….I hate it when people use this reason but injury is really playing with Keith.....his toe isnt getting any better and theres other injuries always.

Groat? Jurys out on him I guess

Cashmere? Winding down.

Bell? Honest and hardworking but will need help

Woods? Exciting and the future is his but we are seeing now with keith what shouldering the "lack of forward recruitment" can do to a body.

I think Sheens in his stubborn creative mad scientist ways sees the halves area already stacked with personnel for next year - benji, anasta, moltzen, humble...front row is where we should look to recruit imo

Evarn Tuimavava,Russell Packer or( Mosese Fotuaika) We have the talent in the lower grades. It:s about time we start to use them.

and Pettybourne, Thompson, Moors, Groat, Cashmere, Bell, Curren, Brown etc.

I agree, at the end, why we keep players at BRET and NYC if we will never give them a chance ? :frowning:

Unfortunately, 'the grass is always greener on the other side' :frowning:

Also, regarding comments on Lui and Bird, we do not want wife beaters at Tigers :bash
