78th minute penalty

I still want to know how the Video ref awarded a cowboy try when Masters got a finger on the ball. The angle that clearly showed him bending his finger back on the ball was conveniently replayed once on channel 9 and never spoken about just Gus pushing his agenda of him wanting it to be a try.

@Madge not having a go here - but why wasn’t it a penalty try? He was hit high and without that, would have scored. Do I not understand the rule?

The contact wasn’t what caused him to drop the ball. It was the strip.

Yes but it was the high contact that put him in the position where he could strip the ball. If it wasn’t for the high shot MCK would have scored. Also if it was a strip it was play-on and Master’s scores. He was the one that finally grounded the ball. Either way it was a try.

I am with you Mike. I thought it was a fair call the penalty try.

Marsters got no where near it ..
It was the first camera shot which made it look like Marsters had got a finger on it

The second angle clearly shows the finger belong to Bowen .
Hope this helps !

@hobbo1 Fair enough, the one replay of that angle sure looked like he touched it though.

I was blowing up deluxe too until I seen the second camera angle .

Def a penalty, Cory flopped in front of the posts.

Dumb play.

Who knows if it was a lucky break though. Cows had momentum and maybe would have scored a winning try.

That’s camera 1 lol

Now put up camera 2

I thought it was penalty - was a late addition to the tackle as the player was getting up.

The penalty try was a bit much I thought. We also got lucky with the second try as Marsters touched it.

That's grounded. Cheers

I was fine with penalty try head attacked in motion of scoring a try - more likely than some of the ones given for kick chase when there is never any guarantee of how cleanly a player will ground the ball. The second try would have been no try if it went to the bunke based on the replay.

@Tiger_Steve in my opinion I think that it was a penalty and not a penalty try.

Firstly, He still had the ball in his hand for a while when trying to score so he was still conscious even though it was a high shot. If he was knocked out then I think there is an argument for a penalty try.

Secondly, Kahu was the one that stripped the ball from Chee Kam in the act of scoring a try, which he is allowed to do, so if there is no high shot it would’ve been play on.

I think people are saying that Chee Kam lost the ball from the high contact but in fact it wasn’t.

That’s what I think.

You could also argue that had he not got hit high the strip would never had occurred - the initial hit to the head dazed him enough that made the strip possible. You can argue it anyway you like but in the end the records show a penalty try.

@diedpretty I think those sort of arguments are out of the equation when the on field ref has already called a no try. Our game is becoming to technical, just keep it simple.
