"80 minute perfromance"

If I hear this phrase one more time..

Tamou going on about it again in the presser as if it means something after using "not playing for the full 80" as an excuse for losing for the 10000th time.

Anyone else as sick of hearing it as I am?

Yeah, along with the same quote after every loss:

Madge, gritted teeth, "this is not who we are".

That’s a slap in the face to us tragics. Yes Madge, it really is.

We haven't put in an 80 minute performance since 2018.

Round 1 and 2 against the Roosters and Storm?

We put in some very good 80 minute efforts in those first 6 rounds in 2018.

Someone posted Madge's press conference quotes BEFORE it was held on Sunday...a**nd got three quotes right.**

I had to laugh 🙂

The reason that line is trotted out is because most players don't understand why a game was lost. They understand that a number of specific moments were important, but they have no idea what should have been done differently both in that moment and leading up to the moment (to avoid that moment even taking place).

Most players lack personal accountability and a lot of it comes down to not really understanding how the game works. They do as their coaches tell them. They don't have any critical thoughts of their own. An "80 minute performance" means that your team consistently won the key moments in the game. Not having an 80 minute performance is a way of saying "we sucked at minute a, b, c" without actually owning those failures.

Funny thing is every moment in a game of footy counts, you could be defending on the opposite side to where the ball is and having a breather and your lack of effort results in a break on the other side of the field. It’s that subtle. It really takes 17 blokes giving their all, all the time. I think we have too many blokes who take those short cuts too often.

Edit: a player who played at the highest level once shared with me some good advice, if you’re not thinking ‘what’s my next job’ at every moment of a game, you’re not doing your job.

Wonder if that’s going through the mind of BJ, Jet etc

Dudes ..I'd settle for 10 minutes at a time at this point...baby steps..

Yeah well its a nice scapegoat because it implies "we are good enough to win but the only reason we don't is because we didn't play as good as we can the whole time. But if we did we would have won"

x8 would be nice

I'm more sick of him quoting "PENRITH" every second sentence.

Just get over the past and continue to the future, not bloody Penrith.

It’s probably the most overused cliche around. Sometimes a team isn’t good enough, yet they try to sugarcoat it by saying they go off the boil for periods.

Well we did almost score 4 tries in 10 mins. That just shows the wild difference in application that lives in us.
