A season to remember

The upcoming season looks promising after one of the strongest off seasons in memory. The players look fitter than ever and the new signings appear to fill some glaring holes in the roster. Two seasons into the job and Hartigan’s influence on the roster is there to see. The spine is new and consists of one of the best young talents at fullback, poached from the West, with Ivan Cleary later ruing his ambivalence in allowing him to leave. A young veteran who hasn’t yet reached his potential is joined in the halves by a new partner who would take on the role of guiding the team around the park. The number 9, an injury prone fella, is hoping to stay on the park long enough to establish a connection with his newly formed spine.

After a strong showing in the trials it’s time to kick off the season. But nothing goes as planned. The early weeks see some embarrassing losses, including against some of the weaker rosters in the league, a 24 point loss to the Warriors and a 16 point loss to the Dragons. But despite the poor performances, they string some wins together and somehow get to round 10 with a 6-4 record. In the next 10 matches the new spine starts to gel and they go on a streak of sorts, only losing 2 matches including a 1 point loss against the Storm. In the run home, they would go on to win 3 more matches to surprise the haters and take the minor premiership.

They roll through the Sharks in the first week of the finals and earn a weeks rest. In the grand final qualifier they beat the Rabbits. The grand final sees them take on last years premiership winner the Storm. Working as a defensive unit they concede only 1 try and take out the victory by 15 points. Wow... Just Wow???

..... Ladies and gentlemen I present to you.............. the 2021 Wests Tigers.......Actually it was really the 2018 Sydney Roosters... But you can always dream.

That’s fine. I think it was the way I positioned it before I edited the ending. It might have come across as though I was rubbing it in our faces when the intention was more about identifying the similarities and giving us some hope. The example shows that it can take while for a new spine to gel and that with a bit of patience and belief we can turn this early season mess around.

It surely will be a season to remember if wests tigers achieve the ultimate score of;

wests tiger **25**
opponents **18**

Making the finals is a better option.
So I'm continuing to be positive that both can be achieved this season.
