I've been super excited to see this kid in action ever since he signed with Tigers. A mate from QLD said to me when he signed, look out for this kid he's going to be a star. Star is often a term used very loosely however he more than held his own and show maturity and quality beyond his years.

We’ll also have Amone and Blore coming on shortly, so the forwards are looking good.

It’s the backs that need the upgrade, centre’s and wingers.

I understand Naden is coming, so that will help, a good winger would be great, though I watched reserved grade and I thought Fitzgibbon has improved greatly since I last saw him at the trials?

I like Fitz but his glaring weakness is taking bombs under pressure.

Yeah, he took at least one and dropped one from memory, as I said he is improving.

And yet there were many on here who said he wasn't ready and get his soul crushed if he played nrl so early in his career. He's just a born footballer,

Robbie was ready
if you are old enough you are good enough

Maybe Liddle may get a few bites from some other clubs like dogs or Roosters for this year even

Losing liddle would be bad business

You need Atleast 3-4 competent dummy halves in a top 30 squad

Simpkin, Liddle, Mbye and at a pinch Walters

2 are specialists and the other 2 can play when needed

Liddle will not want to sit behind Simpkin he woukd be a starting hioker at the dogs if they dont sign B Smith or Titans

I just hope we don't break the kid. His young and his body is not fully developed yet, and 80 minute NRL in the middle with the likes of Asofa-Solomona and Junior Paulo running at you is about as hard as sport gets for anyone. I would be inclined to limit his minutes and/or give him scheduled weeks off. Particularly given the drop off to Liddle isn't going to be tremendously bad at this point, if at all really. We shouldn't feel the need to play him for 80 every week that's for damn sure. Simpkin is an asset for the future as much as he can help us on the field right now.

Liddle should really be a fixture on the pine much like he was last year when Grant took over, and be starting every three or so games.

I'm honestly not even that concerned if we ran Liddle and Mbye both on the bench. The speed of the game and frequency with which teams are carrying an extra person for no reason makes me inclined to think 3 forwards isn't really needed. Particularly if Twal is the 13 and can go into the prop rotation after Mbye comes on at 13. Then you just need Musgrove and another forward that we can cycle between Mikaele, Garner, Blore, Chee Kam, Amone, Seyfarth depending on the need/suspension/injuries/round etc. Obviously always keep a versatile forward in the 18 jersey.

I'm sure the plan was never to play him for 80 mins, but when injuries hit Mbye had to play in the backs and the hooker rotation went out the door.

Ok, Ok, I'm going to call it. I've had enough of people who can't get "he's" and "his" correct. This has become too common in these posts of late. I've had the proverbial gutful.

Sorry that was just a typo.

It seems like you can play 3 middle forwards for part of the game and for another part you can play 2 middle forwards and a 2rd play maker. Mbye suits that role and maybe Liddle would as well. Mbye also covers centres and even fullback.

Rising hooker Jake Simpkin destined for a long NRL career, according to Wests Tigers captain. Jake Simpkin will be in Wests Tigers colours for many years to come if his starring NRL debut is anything to go by.

Rising hooker Jake Simpkin has been hailed the future of the Wests Tigers after he created history and made the most tackles on debut for a Tigers joint-venture player.

Simpkin was sensational in his maiden first grade appearance against a formidable South Sydney side, playing 82 minutes and making 51 tackles in a thrilling loss to the Rabbitohs.

The Toowoomba junior’s 51 tackles is the most by a Tigers player on debut since the joint venture was formed in 2000. He also made the second most tackles on debut in the NRL era since 1998.

Newcastle Knights hooker Chris Randall holds the league-wide tackling record after amassing 68 tackles on debut last year.

Regardless, Simpkin is destined for big things in the NRL, according to Tigers captain James Tamou.

“I’ve never seen a debut like that for a while, especially a hooker playing in the middle and playing over 80 minutes is massive,” Tamou said.

“On the NRL stage and against a big pack like Souths, Jake did an amazing job.

“When you are going through the process, you are unearthing some of this talent, and the Tigers have got a bundle of it who will get their turn soon.

“But a player like (Jake) doesn’t come along very often, and I think we are on to something good here.

“It is just up to us to slowly build him up along the way and do our best to make sure he is at his best, but he has got a long career ahead of him.”

Simpkin is expected to retain the starting hooker position for the Tigers’ Anzac Day clash against Manly at Bankwest Stadium.

The 19-year-old is contracted until the end of the 2022 season, but Tigers officials are expected to extend his contract to keep him at Concord long term.

That last paragraph is all I care about
