'AARON WOODS CUP' HONOURS YOUNG PROP
13/03/2012 10:40:47 AM
Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods has achieved plenty in his short time in the NRL and now he has been honoured by the Balmain District Junior Rugby League.
Leichhardt Juniors will hold the inaugural ‘Aaron Woods Cup’ in honour of their former junior forward who rose through the Balmain junior ranks to the NRL.
The Aaron Woods Cup will be played at King George Park, Rozelle, from 7.30am, on Sunday, April 1, and is open to U12 teams from the Balmain District Junior Rugby League.
“It is a great honour to have a Cup named after me,’’ Woods said.
“I fondly remember my time playing junior rugby league in the Balmain competition and my days with the Leichhardt Juniors. It was great fun and Leichhardt Juniors have a special place in my heart.
“It just goes to show that any young player in the Balmain juniors can make it to the NRL if they work hard and are passionate enough about becoming a professional footballer.
“I wish every player and all the teams the very best of luck for the Aaron Woods Cup.”
All players must be registered for the U12s this season to enter the Aaron Woods Cup. Registrations close on Friday, March 23.
Registrations can be sent to <leichhardtjuniors@bigpond.com>. Cost is $125 per team.
Players will receive a medallion for participating in the day as well as a sausage sandwich and a drink.
Rules and the draw will be forwarded to teams once registrations have closed.</leichhardtjuniors@bigpond.com>
