Aaron Woods - Signs with Bulldogs 2018 - Sharks 2018 [Official]..

If Woods switches clubs, does he need to be moved on for the same amount he was signed for by the dogs (800k?).

Can Sharks offer 500k, Dogs pay 200k & Woods take a 100k pay cut?

Spot on. As long as the NRL approves the new contract and its near an agreed market value. Any player can take a lesser contract but when it’s way off the NRL won’t register like the Roosters tried to get Farah for 200k they wouldn’t allow it.

No , look at the Hayne situation …..

TYGA (above) is spot on so I’ve never understood The Hayne contract

Ok thanks for the input. If it’s dead in the water it’s fine then. Get a feeling the Manly might actually have a play at him if Taupau goes. Other than that his a dog who gets to play with his bff Klemmer. Why would he leave the dogs. Unless of course they say to him we don’t see you as our front rower next year so you might want to have a look around. (Circumstances of how we came to pick up Mbye re fullback) that could motivate him to move.

Which was my exact point 😕 Hayne signed for allegedly 1.2 for GCT and then signed for allegedly 550 k by Parra

But as Tyga says the contract must be agreed upon and ratified by the NRL

I’ve said before I’m just an average supporter and definitely am not arrogant enough to think I have a smoking gun BUT I am absolutely positive and certain that Woods wanted a Tigers return, the board were willing to accept this, but coaching staff did not think it a good use of available cap. That’s why he will be a shark or chook or dog but not a Tiger. Close the thread.

Good post and almost certaintly we don't need to invest a huge amount on Woods. Any spare $ should be set aside for an upgrade for Twal. He is better than Woods now.

It would seem to make sense if the NRL could also veto contracts that seemed largely inflated (cite Hayne example above) - just to protect clubs from themselves.
Perhaps they set a player value based on current ability, experience, rep football and potential and they won't ratify a contract which is 20% above or below.
It's a shame the topics which are so often discussed are salary cap and referees - two topics which should be merely incidental to the real game.

I think Woods would have to ask Ivan nicely if he can come back if we are to see him at the Tigers again

**We only want players who want to play for the club and the team
That was Aaron before he left**

He would no doubt be regretting the day he left the Tigers
Look at the mess he has got himself in
Swallow some pride Aaron
Give Ivan a call
Work something out
Come back home to where you belong
Bring $300000 a year from the dogs and we will give you $500000
You get your $800000 a year and get to play in the best forward rotation in the NRL

Why’d he leave then?

Not the sharpest and guided by a sly fox

More a weasel I'd say!!!!

I thought that his contract was finished at CGT and that the dispute was more around Parra paying unders, as that can be questionable (i.e. what are they offering under the table)

Pretty sure that if a player is contracted currently, the full value must be picked up by a club(s) somewhere along the line, unless both parties agree to rescind the contract (head to UK) or a player can be moved on from a breach in contract.

Most cases are a club moving on a contracted player, so the player will want the full amount of his/her contract if they were to play elsewhere. Usually a sweetener would be involved too for the player, say with mbye, signing for an extra year.

There is a treat from the NRL going around saying we have signed Woods for 2 years starting in 2019\.  it's fake obviously.

Idk how you could sign off on a player one year removed from him throwing your club under the bus. If it were at the end of his 4 year contract, and water had passed under the bridge, then maybe. It’s too early to bring him back like nothing happened. The club has to show some dignity. And it wasn’t just the interview, not once as captain did he ever lead by example and endorse the club. Had too many self interests.

Think some are forgetting this.

He was our captain and was having secret meetings with the dogs trying to get himself, Ted and MM a contract.

Thats enough for me.

At the end of the day would he boost our forward pack? Whether you hate him or not, you’d have to answer yes. Not a big fan of how he conducted himself and karma is definitely paying him back already, but if he is on the cheap then I’d be happy to see him in tigers colours again.

NRL probably looked at the 500k Hayne contract and thought Eels were paying overs.

They would’ve laughed , said what the hell , and stamped “Approved “

I am a bit of a forgive and forget kind of guy I suppose but even I am thinking that bringing him back would be unfair on the fanbase. How are you meant to cheer the dude?

On current form I rate him behind Packer, Mats and Twal. He mightn't even get a start with us!
Seriously, we need a more mobile, tough, aggressive prop who can bend the line and get up for a quick ptb - not a bloke who runs half his metres backwards and looks like a Xmas beetle trying to get up off his back.

Even Woods would not be stupid enough to walk away from a four year deal only to sign a two year deal

Twal maybe but he's outplayed Mats and Packer the past few weeks. They've been awful.
