Aaron Woods - Signs with Bulldogs 2018 - Sharks 2018 [Official]..

I can't quote directly, but yes he was really non-committal. He didn't deny looking at other clubs. Only spoke about himself.
What a douche.
The guy is sitting next to James Graham last night and last week on NRL360 and should take a leaf out of his book. There is a committed player and real captain material.

He's probably just going off the script given to him by his manager to put maximum pressure on the club and extract maximum dollars. Still he doesn't have to do that, he'll get plenty of money regardless of what tactics he engages in. If I had a manager who told me to act like a dick I'd sack him, especially if I were captain of a club that I claimed to love. 2041 all the way to 2193…

I'm sick of the media circus around Woods re-signing, but let's not pretend that he is not entitled to look after himself and do as he pleases.

In all honesty, if I'm Woods I'd be looking at the whole sorry situation the club is in. No recognised coach at the moment, all the spine off contract, a overwhelming percentage of the top 25 not determined for 2018 onward. There's very little there in the way of stability and you couldn't really blame him for stalling until the club is forthcoming with plans on how the future is to be played out.

Hopefully the coaching situation is resolved sooner rather than later and Cleary stabilises the season somewhat while looking to build on next year. That will go a long way to securing signatures like Teddy and Woodsy.

Only heard a bit of the interview on BSB but he did say he leaves everything to his Manager & has complete faith in, T.K couldnt believe what Woods said.

I think it is a bad move on his part being so involved in the media this year.
He doesn't commit to anything and NEVER gives a straight answer … which leads everyone to interpret things their own way.
Wants to wait and see who the coach will be .... then wants to see how the team is performing.
What's next?
Wants to see who else we retain and who we buy and if we'll get free pizza again?
He lost me when he came out and said they stopped running traffic at Inglis in the first game because he wasn't himself.....seriously?

Haven't even got an "I would love to stay, but….". Its 100% non committal, non endorsing, unbecoming of a captain.

x2\. Very well said.

Woods has an obligation to endorse the club being captain. If he wants to look out for himself, that's his prerogative, but stand down as captain. Its one thing for a player to look out for himself. It's a terrible look for a captain to do it.

it'd be quite hypocritical if he signs with the dogs after saying he won't commit to the Tigers until the coaching situation is sorted out.

Hasler is on the rocks there and its unlikely he'll get an extention, let alone see out the year.

I'd be willing to offer him 700k a season as the absolute max.

Absolutely, but at the end of the day he should be able to look after himself. I'd have respected Woodsy a bit better if he turned around and said "there's a shedload of uncertainty here, and we would like some answers before penning." Maybe he has already and I've missed it, there's been that much going on around him. I do agree in some respects though with Gunners when he says that is unbecoming of a captain.

Players are all commodities now though, and I don't want a player here that is only here because we gave them the fattest wallet.

I smell a rat herelike a couple of people have said.

* Bulldogs throw out this fantasy offer for Woods to distract us

* Tigers panic and give Woods more then required

* They then swoop on who they really need and with us with a hole in our pocket (Teddy and Moses)

Anyone with me? Or am I paranoid?

Dogs don't need Woods one bit. They need 2 spine players !

They are up to something here.

Well, probably not paranoid, Eddie. Maybe Machiavellian, though.

Makes more sense than the dogs buying another prop when they already have a heap of good ones.

Maybe James Graham is heading back to superleague and the dogs are releasing a few more

Woods is so laid back with his talk you can't take him serious, it's like he is on a bong 24/7

Someone said a while back that Woods only sees footy as a job, nothing more. And his words of late seem to confirm that. You need more than that from a leader and captain

I don't think he's said what you've suggested, and I agree with you that he should.

He's been vague and somewhat selfish.

"I'll let my manager deal with."
"I'm just focussing on playing good footy"
"I need to know what direction the club is going in"

I don't recall this sort of nonsense coming from Farah when he was captain (I recall he went and had a look at the Titans centre but decided to stay with the Tigers once, but there was no hullabaloo over it)

Woods is a huge step down from Farah in leadership ability and Farah wasn't that great. But he had more of an idea than Woods.

I'd be making Elijah Taylor captain this year to be honest and if Woods wants it back, he put pen to paper.

Aaron Woods ignores Wests Tigers’ contract deadline threats to make decision on his future
MATT LOGUE, The Daily Telegraph
March 27, 2017 7:52pm

OFF-CONTRACT Wests Tigers captain Aaron Woods says he won’t be rushed into a decision on his future.

Just two days after Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said he would impose a deadline on the club’s four off-contract stars, Woods told The Daily Telegraph he wants to see how the team performs before committing.

It comes as a stern-speaking Pascoe vowed “we won’t be held to ransom by anyone”, in regards to the club’s big-name quartet not re-signing until they know who is appointed head coach.

“There is no time frame,” Woods said when asked about his contract.

“I just want to play some consistent footy first and be excited about the footy the team is playing, and then we’ll sit down and sort things out. But I haven’t even thought about it.”

To complicate matters, Woods has attracted interest from a number of rival NRL teams.

Canterbury is one club in the mix for the NSW Origin prop. It’s understood the Bulldogs are preparing to make a formal bid for the Tigers’ four off-contract stars.

Woods, though, is solely focused on the joint-venture club’s round 5 clash against the in-form Dragons at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.

The Tigers sit on the bottom of the table after four rounds and the skipper knows his side must dramatically improve.

Meanwhile, Woods would like to see Interim coach Andrew Webster retain a position at the club — even if another head coach is appointed.

He believes Webster, a former Tigers SG Ball and Under 20s coach, is having a positive influence on the playing group.

“Yeah, well Webby is our Interim coach and he was our assistant coach and he has done a good job,” he said.

“It was obviously going to be a hard week for him last week and probably one of those weeks where it’s easy for the boys to get up for.

“But this is the real tough week for us now and we need to really knuckle down and work hard for each other. I just the club to do what is best for the club.”

Away from club land, Woods can’t wait for the upcoming Origin series against archrivals Queensland.

Speaking at the series launch on Monday, the Tigers captain said the Blues were feeling confident after last year’s thrilling victory in Game 3.

“I think that (win) was just a big step for where Loz (Laurie Daley) wants to go,” he said.

“We just want to be an 80 minute side and we played for the 80 minutes that night. Loz has had a really good squad that he has moulded over the last three or four years.

“There is a real good core of players.”

Yeah agree regarding his leadership qualities. I felt last year once Farah had been dropped to reggies he improved a bit, possibly because Farah was no longer there, but he's not a patch on that this year.

I don't mean to lay the slipper into Woods totally either. He's a great player, could run with a bit more venom but if that's my only criticism of our only Australian representative player then he's doing alright. I think some (myself included,) lose sight of what he offers as a player due to his impotence as a captain.

Let him go and buy 3 aggressive forwards with the same money and then sign the other big 3.

No need to spend big bucks on a player that does not play 80 mins.

He is a great guy but if we are fair dinkim we will let him go.
