Correct Nelson…. I was surprised at the level of negativity towards him reading a thread on LU on him....league fans aren't dopes

Yes. Someone earlier posted to the effect that he had destroyed his own brand. That's a pretty good assessment in my view.

Hopefully booing Woods will just become a thing you do in Rugby League

In some respects I feel a bit sorry for him. I think he was lead poorly by someone and he will regret his decision.

Now that it has come out where he has signed the circircumstances under which it was announced is a non issue unless you think the world revolves around Woods - and for most league fans it doesnt.
Pretty sure the media may also think there are more things to discuss in the game than Woods contract negotiations and how it was and or wasnt shared with the fans.

Feel sorry for him? He is a grown man. Had plenty of time to work out what was going on and make a decision. I feel nothing like that all. Hope he lives to regret his decision

Let him regret it. We go on about them being lead poorly like they are children. He's 26, he's a man. Or do they need to be lead because they are big dumb footballers?

I don't understand why journalists don't give it to these guys.

The correct answer is because the players are content generators. They can't go hard at them or make them look bad or the players won't speak to them anymore.

Tbone gets it, the previous guys do not.

You don't bite the hand that feeds, shoot the golden goose etc. If they bring players onto NRL 360 and maul them, players will stop coming on. It's like the Footy Show, they don't ask anything controversial.

Ah - thanks but get it perfectly.
They also like to be percieved as being objective, unlike fans - and in Woods case the only people that are dirty at him are the Wests Tigers fans - for most others it is a non issue.

I don't think that this is true. I think most league supporters think these guys are dogs.

I just said this. Most people that I've talked too don't like these guys and recognise the way they've acted is poor form.

As for journalists not attacking these guys. I think they should. That is what it means to be a journalist. If the players appear to be inconsistent then they should point it out.

People in general love loyalty, how often do you hear when a top notch player goes on the open market only to re sign with his original club, and people say " iam glad he stayed at club X". Than when a player is seen to be disloyal and sign elsewhere it generates a lot of negativity, but people get over that pretty quickly and move on, but if that player than attempts to justify his actions by dumping on his club, thats when things get ugly..as with Woods.

The media love it because it creates headlines and most players are either smart enough or have people in their corner smart enough to keep them away from being grilled by the media, but Woods sadly let the media take him for a ride. Although I think with Woods it is a two way street, he has used the media to build a cult figure type image over the years, that has generated him contracts way in excess of his real market value and the media have a headline on demand with Woods in their corner.

Sadly I will always remember him as the bloke who dumped on my team and nothing else

Might do - this week. Can almost guarantee most Tigers supporters thought very little of Reynolds and Packer a couple of weeks ago too, now many are welcoming them.

Just saying in the in the scheme of things like him or hate him, how Woods managed his contract talks is very low on most NRLfans meter of what they to want hear about when they are watching an NRL program.
In terms of news for most NRL fans - its just not that interesting anymore.

You're spot on SuperCoach.
My mates that follow the dragons and sharks seem to dislike woods more than me. They have a real hatred for him.
Like I said in another post, I will never understand woods position.

3 of my friends, who are Bulldogs fans, all are filthy they've signed him as they don't rate him. All of them know that Reynolds isn't a Champion 5/8,just a super competitor but an integral part of any success they have.

Dog fans will change their attitude on woods if their winning. Opposite if they are loosing .

Given the amount of $$ being poured into the dogs their under achieving given they are the club that gets given everything.

A lot of Dogs fans aren't happy with the signing based on the money. If the club has a good year that will change but if they have a bad year Woods is going to cop it.

Tell you what, all this stuff with woods and the other 2 has made me appreciate Dene Halatau a lot more. I took him for granted while he was here. He was such a leader and a great clubman. I would love to have him in the team again.

First time or second time?

Specifically the second time. He unlike the other 3, would always seem passionate about the team. Him smashing Thurston all game last year, is one of my favourite memories of him.

Halatau is a gentlemen.
As is Chris Lawrence.

Lawrence is a PR's dream. In a profession loaded with scumbag's, he's a class act off the field. Aloiai is another kid who is a class act off the field. They were raised well.

On Lawrence, its interesting some don't care about him being a nice guy, because he struggles on the field, yet stick their nose up to Packer, even though we need a guy like him desperately.

What this whole saga does is drive home what "reputation" and "legacy" should mean to a footballer.

Modern footballers don't seem to care as much, but in 10-15 years from now, when their careers are over and the fans aren't cheering any more, I wonder how they feel. The constant club and code hopping players might have admirers, but do they have long-term fans?

If you saw Ben Te'o or Aaron Woods in the street, would you run up to shake their hands? Compared to a Tommy Raudonikis or Wayne Pearce?

Even Benny Elias, for all the stupid things that have come out of his mouth recently, people still have some time/forgiveness for him because he was such an honest footballer and clubman.

Could not agree more. Most players that people reminisce about are club legends. How many of the immortals went through multiple clubs, particularly when they weren't forced out
