Exactly & I actually believe Douiehi is a better centre than a number 6. We can use his height out wide to catch cross field bombs & kicks. I recall a game he played against Manly last year where he was awesome & probably had his best game for the year he was playing left centre. I also believe Brooks is a running number 6 with Hastings as our organiser that will take the pressure off him & if Madge uses him as a running number 6 then he will have his best year ever.

Lol no way we signed Hastings as a backup.

And no way Brooks was even being viewed as in doubt as the starting halfback otherwise he would’ve been traded with the Knights offering to pay his full package.

There was a reason AD played centers last season and Mbye in the halves.

Reynolds did the exact same thing when he was here. It’s great to have that competitiveness, but it gets thrown around like it’s the be all, end all. He needs to step up to a level he’s been away from for 4 years.

That’s what I see as the issue… nothing like the top flight… he’s conditioned as an Aussie though, as opposed to Gildart (and looks much more solid) so hopefully is a more reliable bet to succeed.

I’ve been a fairly staunch Brooksy fan but if he’s to succeed and force Adam into centres - because those two together in the halves do not balance each other - then it will be as a virtual f/e with 7 on his back. IMO, he is much less likely to rediscover Dally M halfback form than Hastings being able to steer us around.

I agree that he’s more likely to succeed than Gildart. He really should be starting the year for the Magpies, yet it looks like he might be starting in the centres. Which goes to show how hard up we are for quality in that position.
