Adam Doueihi #227

His kicking is average, he is slow (in 5/8 terms), defence is below par, and his attitude is as variable as the wind.
...
I see a top quality centre written all over him, can't say I see a 1 or 6 on his back though.

Can you really see a top quality centre when he is slow with poor defense and his attitude is all over the place ?

To me centres need some pace and it's one of if not the hardest position to defend in the game plus it's a position where players can go missing.

I'm waiting to see how he goes this season.

I think that much of the decision making in attack is taken from him at centre; whereas at 5/8 if he drifts out of the game our backline is stifled. The attack he is facing a little wider out also gives him a little more time to make decisions and commit; not saying it is simple but more suited to his game than what I have seen of him at 5/8.

He is a strong lad and is driven and I think these are great attributes for a centre; whereas, at fullback and 5/8 that needs to be coupled with speed, agility, and foresight, plus a good kicking game at 5/8.

I simply think that his skill set makes him a much better centre than 5/8 or fullback.

I'm know he will be given a crack at 5/8 and we will have to see how it pans out. I just want to see us have a look at other options before we settle for this as the long term solution.

Earl I agree with a majority of your post, however I played centre on numerous occasions in the day,if your coached properly stick to your opposition man ,run hard at the gap and get a pass away to your winger, then it's a good position to play...if I went missing in games I would find myself on the bench because I would be letting my team mates down...

Definitely. One hundred percent the hardest position to defend.

TT, whilst that may have been true with older backline structures, unfortunately, sticking to your man died with the introduction of the backline sweep and second man play. Centre is the major decision maker in the backline now and communication with their outside men is paramount. It's a high-pressure position defensively and one that carries alot of the burden for edge performances for teams.

Gee Kelce ,I'm glad I finished off my career on the wing....If I was playing these days in the centres I'd have my work cut out staying on the bloody field..I was ok in the old days but I probably wouldn't make the cut these days..I'd have a red hot go though...😁

I never thought AD's defence was bad. He got pushed off a bit in the last couple of games last year, but he was also guilty of trying to do too much on the field. I don't remember anyone saying his defence was bad prior to that.

As for his best position- don't know. I think it's completely dependent on who the Tigers sign. If MM comes on board, clearly he moves to FB or Centre. Without MM, he's a 5/8. I suspect FB might be his 'best' spot. But as a 5/8, I think he could be that Scott Hill style player- bigger, slower, but drags defenders to him, opening up room for others around him. I'll be looking to see him run more this year & try to bring players into the attack with that pop pass back inside, or even dragging in the opposition centre to free up our outside guys.

Could go either way this one.

If we hadn't extended him and he had a breakout season we would've regretted it.

I don't see that happening in the halves, but he's young and has the right attitude. Hoping he owns a position and really excels.
