Adam Doueihi #227

What I loved most about WT win over the Raiders?

It was that our nemesis in recent years, Jordan Rapana was put in his place.

He has terrorised the WT for years but the tables finally turned and our boys put so much pressure on him, he cracked.

I have a huge amount of respect for Jordan, he gives his all and at age 34 he still looks like he could go around for another 2 years in the NRL.

I haven't seen bombs like that from the WT since Patty Richards was putting them up.

Having Adam at centre gives us so many kicking options.
Even when Luai is here, Douehi's long kicking game can come in handy. Lomax from Dragons, Isaako for Dolphins, Mitchell for Rabbitohs, Drinkwater at Cowboys etc try to take a couple of kicks here and there to take the pressure off the main kicker especially when you're stuck in your own 30-40, slow PTB and the defensive line is targetting your main kicker.

All that being said, Douehi's main job is to not switch off in games.

When we had 12 men defending?
yeah … he is still allowed to tackle them
Interesting - Naden was provided with the same dilemma and when he missed the mark he put in and recovered to help shut down the play. AD jogged on - not my problem.

He played a great game but that defensive lapse was telling - he still has an attitude problem in defence.

Great game overall, but nothing more that a B plus!

I noticed that there was a drop in intensity from our guys just before the sin binning (how many have we had of late? It's a bit worrying) that continued when we had only 12 men on. The team has held better opposition than the Raiders out when they've only had 12 on the field, I think it had more to do with the drop in intensity than the fact they only had 12 guys defending.
After the Raiders had scored those three tries the guys finally pulled their socks up & competed at 100% again.

“pulled their socks up”… meaning AD took an all or nothing intercept that if it didn’t go to hand the Raiders would have scored their 4th try in 8 minutes to cut the lead to 12 …

And I thought Naden defended and played very well also.
Olam will need to lift his game if he wants to keep his centre position.
He's really only had one great game since donning the Tigers jersey, indeed he may find himself overlooked unless he ups his game especially when Starford Toa is fit to play.

They lifted in intensity across the board, if they didn't we may have been looking at golden point of not one of the biggest comebacks in NRL history.

They definitely lifted their intensity & kept putting pressure on Jordan Rapana forcing errors we normally don't see from the guy.

As you would expect we changed our defensive pattern, compressed it and went up and in when they spread the ball. AD simply overcommitted twice - the issue I have with it wasn't the overcommitment - that can be coached and fixed. The issue I have is his complete lack of effort once he made the decision. I have heard the lack of energy and first game back arguments and they don't cut it - he outpaced Weekes over 80m not long afterwards. He has always faded in and out of games and that is the issue with him.

Is he servicable at centre - sure is. Does he provide some great options in attack - yep. Has his defence in general improved - I give it a plus. But unless he picks up his game he will cost us in key matches going forward. Games where we can't afford for him to gift 12 points to the opposition.

Fix his ability to put in on both sides of the ball for 80 minutes and he is a keeper. But, if we are serious about being a top 4 team and winning competitions, and he continues to fade in and out of games, as soon as we have a suitable recruit he will make a great depth player or better still an opponent we can target!

As I have said in previous posts, AD defence is the only issue he needs to fix.
It was a problem before he got injured & he made a few bad defensive decisions in his comeback game. However he isn't the only player in our top 30 who has that in them.

For his sake, and the sake of the club he needs to work on his defence, I reckon it can be fixed by the defence coaching team.

Early in the first half when Raiders nearly scored in the corner, he just ran around in circles like a clueless chicken. I'll have to look at the replay but I remember watching, knowing his deficiencies, thinking it's try time but everyone scrambled. He's the worst defender in the NRL. Bar none.

It will be laid bare this weekend.
Keary, Manu and Tedesco will target his edge.

You would expect no less - 13 on 13 he may hold up to it if they work together. If we lose a man imagine how many points could leak through that edge!
