Adam Doueihi #227

I've been pretty critical of Doueihi in the past. I've cited a lot of similar issues Jolls has and used to get frustrated when praise was heaped Doueihi by fans and commentators alike who'd often label him our sides best player.
Additionally I put little to no credence in some of the reasons people are putting forth for why we must keep him; "loves the club", "local junior" and "leadership". For various reasons I think these things are a load of crap.
But, he has been pretty good this year. He can cover multiple positions to an NRL standard including spine positions. Offers a skill set that few else seem to have in our side long kicking and goal kicking. And as much as I don't rate him at all as a leader he is an experienced player and a communicator.
He is comfortably worth the 500K.

I think your anti Douehi bias is showing. You could make the same points for every tiger player this season. he is not on $1.25m. and has been our best player in the last 3 0 4 games. Hard to say that about many other players on big money.. He's got to be the best value for money player on the roster ,if we can keep him. can play anywhere in the back line, can kick goals and has long kicking game. His defence has improved and he has plenty of speed. I don't know what you want from him. I wish we had a few more like him in the squad.
I think those who are opposed to Doueihi signing on for a couple more seasons are more concerned with Benji’s ability or desire to keep him motivated.
Doueihi has been looking very serious lately, perhaps an indication that he is getting nowhere with the relationship mending, and the mention of IM also didn’t seem to work on Benji 😂
Doueihi’s defensive work vs Dogs was exceptional, but is it a temporary thing?

As one of ADs biggest fans, just read that our upgrade offer is 2 years at $350k per annum( same as his current deal) and up from 1 year @ $350k. Dragons, supposedly, have offered him $500k. That tells me we want him out, irrespective of his recent form.
I’m disappointed and hope it’s not another poor recruitment decision. I also think the signing of Madden reinforces that.

Agree 100% and if Sullivan is on $550k then 2 years @ $500k for Doueihi is not unreasonable. He is at the very least a FG player and adds plenty of versatility for our squad. I think Lock is where he can excel and Latu can hone his skills with Luai in the pre season as Galvin is not going to have the inside running as he did this season and hopefully Latu is over his hamstrings issues as he has plenty of talent to have the spine fire. The 2026 season can hopefully see Samuela and KPP running into holes, creating room for Taylan, Toa , Makasini, Skelton and Tureva to score more points. Finish off 2025 strong.

Im far from convinced he can be a genuine lock forward.
If I was devising a game plan to keep Latu and Doueihi (and Bula) on the field, Doueihi would have the 13 on his back and defend in the middle but would play right side in attack. Latu would defend right half position but be the first receiver in attack, some might call it a ball playing lock role but it is more of a true halfback role. I think Latu is a natural first receiver and Doueihi is not, more a second received.
Now I mention Bula because I think for this to work he needs to be a constant presence up the middle 3rd be it taking hit ups when required, as an inside runner for the 2nd receivers or a support runner for the forwards or if Latu wants to take on the line.
Now I appreciate this would put a big workload on Doueihi. One I'm not sure he is capable of doing for 80minutes to be honest. I think you vary between starting him on the bench and playing a genuine middle forward for the first 15-20 or starting him and attacking edges early before trying to run through their middle late in the half. This is where Api should be thriving with Latu and Bula alongside him.

Nothing personal either but what someone else is earning should have no bearing on what he is offered. It certainly may influence his self evaluation but wasting money on others doesn't justify what we should be able to spend on Doueihi. I'd put this alongside the "loves the club" type arguments.

ADs form over the past month has gone a long ...LONG...way to saving Benjis coaching career!!
We wld still be favorites for the spoon if it wasnt for Douhie...almost certainly lost to Titans..maybe lost to Dogs..and others
.and if we got the spoon one more time, that wld have been the end of Marshall.
Marshall owes him nothing btw ...other than the recognition that rite now he is our best player..and hes 26
To low ball him after actually performing against all the rubbish weve bought at absolutely top $$ based on: "potential" is simply losing track of reality
If so,Benji will be a bigger fool than most even anticipated
Yeah nah,,,not a Benji fan
Big fan of outcomes and results
Sorry

Your recency bias is beyond godfish brain - see a dementia specialist!

You seriously want to pay Doueihi $500K per season for TWO years to match the Dragons offer - then I'd suggest you sit this one out!

I smell an Isaac Moses / Shane Flanagan ploy here to get us to offer more for AD. Don’t be surprised.
Douhei isnt signed with Moses, he asked him to see what's out there.. I can't confirm as 💯 factual, but it's my understanding that if he resigns with the Tigers, that the negotiation is all Douhei... If he leaves the club, then that's when he signs with Isaac so he gets a cut on the work he's done to get him a contract. So there's nothing in it for Isaac for douhei to stay..

If true..and most likely it is..it saves 7% on say $500k.Not really material. Not a gamechanger
Appreciate hes been injury prone..and somewhat disappointing in recent years ..but rite now hes playing out of his skin and is EASILY our best player
I dont buy all the BS about potentials and maybes. or alternatives that we may have or mite emerge. sometime maybe in the future...i need delivery rite now.
Hes doing that
Just wanna be assured hes in Benjis IN crowd;;if not ..one of the two needs to move on
And probably isnt the coach given the recent results thank you AD
Richo,,,where the bloody hell are you!

Jeez you're brutal. Actually it makes me laugh how the response is so explosive and the tone of the response is not in proportion to the original post. 🤣

Stop listening to commentary so much. Our forwards showed up versus Roosters and Bulldogs and gave our halves time to play, which they did well.

That doesn’t necessarily equate to a massive contract upgrade, it just means we need our forwards going well.

Latu is definitely more of a 6 than a 7.
In my opinion and as much as I can’t stand the entitled smug wayneker, copper conk. I really think employing him to train Latu in his position and his kicking game in the off season. Just a short term contract to help Latu in his game, would be invaluable.

An extra $150K per season than the current offer - for a bloke with a 34% career winning rate is DISPROPORTIONATE!

He is an anchor - but you want to pay him half a million based on his ceiling while his basement levels in defence are far below anyone else in the squad & more consistent than anything approaching his best!

Mediocrity being framed as elite is a social media phenomenon!

AD and Luai aren’t a first grade halves combination. AD fills in admirably but there’s holes in his game. You don’t play finals if that’s your first pick.

Latu Fainu has a fair way to go to be a week to week starter, particularly as a general. I think he needs to be the six with Luai at seven for a while.

Madden is probably the style of player we need, Luai had success with guys like him at Penrith when Cleary was out injured.

AD on 350k as a utility is smart from the club.

Toa shouldn’t be there, only as backup

Compare the 2 halfbacks on Sunday Galvin with the support of his top 4 pack and Douehi ?
A couple of months ago we were happy to put 5 years at $1mill year in front of Galvin and here we are worrying about 2 years at 500k year to Douehi
In terms of football value it was chalk and cheese .Douehi was far far better
Imo lock him up with 2 years at $650 k with a club option for 3rd year

Mate that’s horrendous logic. Pascoesque.

We don't need him!

Flanno is batting his eyelids like a thirsty tart - & throwing an extra $50K per year at him for every good performance!

The ball is in Douihei's court - hopefully he follows the money!

Richo is far too smart than to enter an Isaac Moses driven auction with the Dragons - for a bloke who has been a free agent for 2026 since 1st November 2024!

I see value in him as a utility player if he’s switched on. But that’s why he’s only worth <400K. He’s not a guaranteed starter week to week in a good side.
