Broncos captain Adam Reynolds has played his last NRL game.
Reynolds is expected to announce on Monday afternoon that he will not be fit to feature in either of Brisbane’s final two games of the season.
The retiring skipper hoped to have a farewell appearance in Brisbane’s last home game against Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.
However, persistent calf injuries mean he is not fit enough to take the field at NRL level.
Reynolds, 36, will depart the NRL as a two-time premiership-winner following 323 games for the South Sydney and Brisbane.
He helped the Broncos snap a 19-year NRL title drought with last year’s premiership triumph.
Reynolds hasn’t played since suffering a concussion in Brisbane’s round 22 loss to Newcastle at Suncorp Stadium.
He missed the following round through the mandatory concussion stand-down and has been sidelined since with persistent calf problems.
Broncos coach Michael Maguire initially circled the Storm game as a potential home farewell match for Reynolds, but his fitness has been touch-and-go.
