You would've enjoyed Kardomah Cafe X Cross late 80s Indie scene.

Out watching live gigs around that time every week.

Australia had a super live music scene and plenty of bands 70s and 80s.

Pokies in pubs killed it.

Used to enjoy seeing alot of undercover top line bands playing under reb names around 88 to 92. Favourite was Screaming Jets playing under some other name at Max's at Parramatta Rd Petersham 1990 on a Sunday night 6-10pm around this time of year for around 6 weeks.

$2 entry, $1.80 schooners grab the front table next to stage.
I left Sydney mid 80's. Prior to that though used to mainly frequent the places Ink mentioned - Family Inn, Sundowner, War and Peace. Early to mid 90's lived on the Gold Coast so spent a lot of time at The Playroom, The Patch and the pubs around Tweed Heads and Coolangatta.

Pub scene back then was great
Comb & cutter. Blacktown
Family inn rydalmere
Selinas coogee
Stage door tavern
Joint in punchbowl. Now. Croat club forget the name
My memories bad with names we'd go to a dive in Bondi jn a lot... Angels, menTals, rose tattoo etc

I remember cold chisel would occasionally play as the barking spiders.
You'd get the newspaper on Thursday u think it was and the gig guide was sometimes three full pages
Ink, that used to be the Sundowner Hotel and was one of the Hotels that Millers Brewery had in Sydney, I think that was before the Millers Brewery was bought out by, I think Tooheys.

There was another Millers Hotel in Fairfield and I'm not sure how many others there were scattered around Sydney up until the 1970's when they started to disappear.

Looks better on a t - shirt. Love the Led Zeppelin album cover on my t shirt 25 years ago. Would still work today. Marketing. Thats the key.

The joint in Punchbowl was the Sundowners I think. Loved that place, saw many great Aussie bands there.

nice pick up - a lot of my vinyl collection is Australian indie/alternative bands of the 70's, 80's and 90s. Stuff such as Buffalo, Birdman, The Saints, The Trilobites, The Scientists, Died Pretty, GOD, Thought Criminals, Cosmic Psychos - the list goes on. I've tried to buy everything released on the Citadel label but have fallen a bit short.
Just saw Dee Minor and the Dischords at the Bridge Hotel Saturday night.

So was that place in Cabramatta. Just ask Jimmy Barnes. It was ubiquitous.
Remember seeing Redgum at the Stardust about 1980/81 and when they came out John Schumann (Schumann the Human) came out with this spiel about what a shithole Cabramatta and the Pub was because one of their mates that came out to see them got bashed outside.

He was probably right but I called it home up until early 1981.

I still am out in Sydney town watching live music a couple of nights a week - sometimes more. While it's not like the 80's, there are some great musicians in various formations who play regularly around town doing there own stuff as well as playing with some of the more well known artists when they are touring.
Saw the Cruel Sea at the Enmore last week and just reminded me of what a crackin band they are. Go see them if you get the chance

Still a memorable song. But I hear you. Changed since then. Not much news coming out of there anymore. Bands seem to be dying in pubs. But I don't know. Haven't seen the statistics
