AJ has speed, someone said he is only 24 - surely he has something else to recommend him.

Jennings is only 23 - look what happened there.

AJ would come here (couldn't wait I would think) because Souffs don't want him and neither do anyone else....except maybe us (The Plodders Retirement Home).

Some people on here are saying - there are no really good players available now so you have to grab what is available....That sounds like what Cleary did in his recruitment. All we have had since then is complaints Reynolds, Packer, Matulino etc. etc.

Let's not do that again eh!.......well, only if you want to set the club back another two years.

It sounds like you’ll be disappointed to see a back three of AJ, Nofo and Robert Jennings next year?

That's wrist slashing stuff, Avo!!!!

It’s shaping up to be a real possibility which is quite distressing

That backline could go down as the all time plodder backline of the decade.. good time’s ahead no wrist slashing just reality!

Another phrase I’m sick of “Madge has a plan”. Every coach has a plan.

What’s wrong with it ? Multiple elite juniors purchased , through Qld and NSW. Ingrates and bad blokes moved on . A search for elite talent who show the character traits required to buy in . Which , I reckon , would be a lot harder than you might think. To have right virtues that mesh . This isn’t just works hard . This could be a variety of things. Like how they react to blunt criticism, or the genera demeanour around the team. The storm do the same thing by the way .
How many elite talents do they sign at the peak of thier cost cycle ? Zero. They retain their own using TPAs , thus their inflated salary cap.
Also on that note . An easy way to police TPAs. Have a luxury tax if you go over a set amount . ( this is a few paid to the remaining 15 clubs . So if you go over , you owe each club 100k . So in essence if the luxury threshold is 500k , to go over the salary cap by 500k through TPAs , it actually costs you 2 million . It would be a huge deterrent for most .

Explain to me what his plan is. It should be to make the finals and win a comp. But he also needs to execute it. Is replacing Thompson (who is a bad fullback) with AJ (who is better but not by much) going to achieve that plan? One would think not. Juniors is nice and all but there's a heap of uncertainty there as well as a decent amount of time before that yields results.

I'm not overly worried about our forwards, I think they're not too bad. I think our backline is really poor and I think not having a specialist hooker is a recipe for disaster. Going into the season with Walters (who isn't a hooker) and Reynolds (who is a terrible hooker) is not good enough and to be honest, illustrates very poor planning.

Johnston is a high priority signing, and a great player. Probably only slightly below the level of:
Latrell
Lomax
Brimson
Moylan
Milford

Hello mediocrity. We should go all out and sign Will Smith from Parramatta. Penrith have 3 better fullbacks at their club.

Thats a load of RUBBISH you say Thompson is a bad fullback compared to Teddy and Ponga I would tend to agree but he gives 100% puts his body on the line and is a fist grade footballer you cannot ask much more then that

Thompson is a bad fullback. Awful under the high ball and no passing game. Also can't organise a defensive line. Effort doesn't = wins.

Hopefully with the change of attitude that appears to surfacing we should be in a position to win more games and attract better players this will be MADGES first full season in charge and from what he inherited there was never going to be an instant success it would take a good three years to turn the club around

I agree with your assessment in general but I think that's a good reason to add Alex Johnston. We need some better outside backs. Hooker is also a concern but I assume the club is relying on Liddle/Simpkins longer term.

I'd prefer Latrell but if we can't get him we should still be adding some outside backs. JAC may come here. Who knows. There is nothing official out yet anyway even though from the sound of it we've missed out on Latrell. That might be okay as well because we were offering him massive dollars and maybe a better option will come up at some point.

It's not all doom and gloom. We have cap space available for the right players. Our pack looks okay. Our halves are good. We have signed up some juniors that may come on.

I don't have an issue with Johnston on the wing, I think he's actually a good winger and a heap better than what we have. But he's coming to play fullback and although an incremental upgrade, not huge.

Relying on Liddle was always going to create issues because he struggles to stay uninjured more than a few games at a time. The severity of his injury was known during the 2019 season, plenty of time to find a specialist hooker.
