I just thought of something. What if SG has been snooping round on Souths forum, found this scoop and is now trying to pass it off as his own. Nothing would surprise me atm.

I reckon he plants this stuff here then goes back to the warren or the chook pen or wherever and says “you won’t believe what I’ve stirred up...”

Come on now.

Everyone needs to get a grip Madge knows what he's doing whats the use of chasing LM if he wanted to be here he would be here now. There has been so much BS in regard to LM that it's smack of double standards he saying Souffs are good to the Indigenous players however to get to Souffs three of his Indigenous brothers have to be shafted go figure remember MADGE HAS A PLAN and if we can get players of 1st grade and SOO standard go for it we have spots to fill in our Cap and there's not to many options out there and if Souffs are contributing to their contracts happy days and also we are all keyboard warriors not RL Coaches

Another phrase I’m sick of “Madge has a plan”. Every coach has a plan.

Some are better than others

His one isn’t looking too crash hot at the moment though is it?

If it is true, Johnston would be our top winger. But there's no room for him and jac. Not without offloading Nof and possibly Thompson too.

Jennings wont be renewed beyond 2020 and Nofo will need to take a massive paycut when his contract is up or he will be flicked too...

You want to judge him on one full pre-season his plan looks ok to me and a lot better than Ivan’s

He’s signed a bench prop from st George, potentially a Rabbitohs reject (so they have enough cap space to buy the player we actually wanted) and a guy who’s played one nrl game. I’m
Not convinced.

He could sign a corpse and some people would defend it.

Retrospect means nothing in regards to Ivan. I’ve never seen a bigger man crush in all my years on the forum. At the time I’d hazard a guess and say you were on the bus as much as anyone else.

For the life of me lads I can't figure out why our club is even entertaining the idea of assisting the bunnies make salary cap space so that they can sign the players that we are/were in the market for. I'm sure that if we got both Johnson and Gagai (signed at the bunnies for 2020 and 2021 respectively) they would be of some benefit to us. But that benefit would pale in into significance compared to benefit that souths by having the cap space to sign LM and Arrow. Rule of thumb has usually been if your direct competitor is struggling your benefiting
On top of that neither are at the top of their game, both peaked 4 or 5 years ago, both have injury concerns and both are tipped as utilites not specialist (think Reynolds, Mbye, Taylor, Jennings, etc).

If we do get him I sincerely hope it’s only as a winger ... average player at best ( like the ones we already have).

If the rumour is true that we are getting JAC and Johnson, then you'd think Johnson is going to play fullback.

At fullback, I'm not keen...hell...I don't even rate him as a winger!

Why do you not rate him he as speed and does know how to finish I think he is a good player

He's poor defensively and he's really only a support fullback - he can't ball play and I don't see him break tackles...we already have one of those in Thompson.

Secondly, I'd imagine we'd be paying him around the $500k mark...maybe more? He's no better than anyone we already have and for that money is expensive for what he offers.

Ok you have explained your reasons respect your views just don’t agree with this one

Respect brother

That's funny, I've been thinking the same thing.
I thought it was a coincidence that somebody on the forum asked something like, where is SG when you need him and suddenly, guess what, up pops New SG.
Ah well, makes for good off season entertainment.

I don't think its about us helping Souffs to get Cap space its more about WT's improving our squad with what is available and drawing a line in sand by making it known that the club will not entertain players unless they want to be here

Someone talking sense. High five to you Elderslie!

6 weeks ago, Matulinos exemption wasn't in play. If we nab JAC, Leilua and Johnston in one off season, we've done a lot better than I thought we were able to.

It’s the equivalent of me pursuing Angelina Jolie for months and then after the 100th rejection saying ‘I’m now drawing a line in the sand’

So the general logic here seems to be, unless we land top-shelf marquee, we shouldn't sign anyone.

Rightio

Agree.

For the most part we have a very very average squad.

Were trying to change the culture and it takes a couple of seasons.

Now for the fact, we can only buy players that are available or willing to come here.

Pascoe says we want to create a club where people want to be here (great, I love it), but also a club that isn't just making up the numbers (well let's own that statement). I feel we are just making up the numbers if we sign AJ to allow LM to go to the bunnies. I'm sick of our club being everyone's dumping ground when they see something better. I hope Madge is chasing someone that we don't know about overseas. Screw souths and LM, if we don't want to just make up the numbers, then we need to play hardball and stop bending over.

if AJ & JAC joined I can only see AJ at fullback.

Nofo we need his runs to start the sets especially with Marsters gone.

I wouldn’t say no to either but question if AJ is the right fit for us.

No, it's that we shouldn't just take the first cast offs that are offered up by another club to help them out. Souths want cap relief? Sure we'll take Liam Knight off their hands and give him a big upgrade for 2020 to sweeten the deal for him. Or we take our big pile of money for 2020 and use it to try to entice players like Cotric, Wighton, Fifita, Arrow, McLean, Butcher or Frizell to seek an early release to sign with us. Not every player might be solely motivated by money but at least some of them will be.
Johnston has been "available" for a long time now. He's seen as the least valuable member of their back line because all he has is speed in open space. If we signed him I think people would soon start to appreciate that he'd be about the least valuable member of our back line too...

Yep, well said. AJ has been shopped around for a good while now. They must think it’s a Xmas miracle.
