Latrell has been a pain the butt and I am sure that his personality would not fit in with the Wests tigers boys.

What? You mean winner? Yeah you’re right...

This signing if happens certainly will not have the desired effect the club would want . Most have had enough of average signings on ridiculous amounts of money . The types making these Decisions with in the club really need to have a good look at themselves!

But if Latrell won't sign with us, what do you want?

Is a marquee player to much to ask for?

Take a ninth placed team, add big Luciano and little AJ on the sting and hey presto, a 12th place finish

We can spin it like Shane Warne they will be training the house down and fitter then ever.

He will quite easily be most dangerous player in our backline.
No complaints here 😎
Watching Masters and Jennings move in slow motion this season was painful

The famous Maguire training regime will be needed for that rig Jennings is carrying around. Hoping he comes back in shape this year.

I suggest you spend a little time in the 2020 Preseason forum

He looks a lot slimmer in the recent training photos ?

It's allegedly $1m for three years. Welcome AJ if thats the case!
Half this forum needs to chill or seek help.

Nothing against AJ, but why would we want to help a team make us look like idiots?
We should stay away from any souths players at this point.
Regardless if he would make any slight improvement or not, signing any souths players to help them get Latrell will just make things harder in the future to sign star players and to keep young talent.

I don't want Lattrell! He clearly does not want to play for us and I question his motivation to get fit for full back.

We all question his motivation and desire, but signing a souths player is not the answer, it will just create more problems moving forward.

He's already lost heaps.

I don't hate the signing of AJ, I mean it sucks that it looks like it means no LM, but does he really have as much pace as everyone is suggesting.... doesn't look that fast to me. Maybe I've never taken notice.

re A J- Imagine the excitement when, for the first time in recorded memory, we have a player who could intercept and run 70 metres to score instead of having a prop run down our speedsters and enjoy a piggy back.

You have forgotten Jac.

Everyone needs to get a grip Madge knows what he's doing whats the use of chasing LM if he wanted to be here he would be here now. There has been so much BS in regard to LM that it's smack of double standards he saying Souffs are good to the Indigenous players however to get to Souffs three of his Indigenous brothers have to be shafted go figure remember MADGE HAS A PLAN and if we can get players of 1st grade and SOO standard go for it we have spots to fill in our Cap and there's not to many options out there and if Souffs are contributing to their contracts happy days and also we are all keyboard warriors not RL Coaches

Another phrase I’m sick of “Madge has a plan”. Every coach has a plan.

Some are better than others

His one isn’t looking too crash hot at the moment though is it?

What’s wrong with it ? Multiple elite juniors purchased , through Qld and NSW. Ingrates and bad blokes moved on . A search for elite talent who show the character traits required to buy in . Which , I reckon , would be a lot harder than you might think. To have right virtues that mesh . This isn’t just works hard . This could be a variety of things. Like how they react to blunt criticism, or the genera demeanour around the team. The storm do the same thing by the way .
How many elite talents do they sign at the peak of thier cost cycle ? Zero. They retain their own using TPAs , thus their inflated salary cap.
Also on that note . An easy way to police TPAs. Have a luxury tax if you go over a set amount . ( this is a few paid to the remaining 15 clubs . So if you go over , you owe each club 100k . So in essence if the luxury threshold is 500k , to go over the salary cap by 500k through TPAs , it actually costs you 2 million . It would be a huge deterrent for most .

Explain to me what his plan is. It should be to make the finals and win a comp. But he also needs to execute it. Is replacing Thompson (who is a bad fullback) with AJ (who is better but not by much) going to achieve that plan? One would think not. Juniors is nice and all but there's a heap of uncertainty there as well as a decent amount of time before that yields results.

I'm not overly worried about our forwards, I think they're not too bad. I think our backline is really poor and I think not having a specialist hooker is a recipe for disaster. Going into the season with Walters (who isn't a hooker) and Reynolds (who is a terrible hooker) is not good enough and to be honest, illustrates very poor planning.

We can’t win the comp right now . LM wasn’t changing that . The Cleary stop gap, throwing crap at a barn style, wasn’t about this year or next either . It was about maintaining something reasonable whilst we blew up the junior pathways. Madge has done the same .but with far more intensity. Luckily last year , A lot more players than most of us would have thought pushed through , to grab NRL spots , or put pressure on those above them.
Matulino wasn’t supposed to hit the skids not was Packer , and McQueen and JR just never came on.
So a bit better goal kicking , and few bounces the right way and we are in the eight .
Marsters was a passenger, People were screaming how Robbie ruins the team , and the rest were filler . Matto , yep ?, I see the obvious loss, but he clearly wasn’t a huge WAR (win above replacement) , because we finished the same spot again.
Also a big thing no one has mentioned . Madge has been here a whole year . He turned up around this time last year. The guys look hungry , happy and fit as F.
It’s a weak market not much you can do

After remembering a situation which occurred in my life I have done a complete turnaround on my thinking with regards to Johnston's imminent signing. Many years ago I applied for a professional position where there were quite a number of applicants. The boss of the section where the job was located didn't attend the interview which was conducted by his superior. Anyway I got the job and on my first day I met the section boss whose first words to me were "If it was me I wouldn't have selected you". I was taken back back by his words and did not respond. Instead I felt this great motivation to prove him wrong. I worked hard and was very happy in this job which I carried out for almost 10 years.

The point I am making is, do not under estimate the talents of Johnston as a future Wests Tigers fullback. Unlike Mitchell, who is a very impetuous and at this stage unstable person, Johnston seems to a quiet laid back fellow who puts his mind to his work as well as consistently putting his body on the line, If, as I am sure, he has the will to succeed he will at 24 years of age serve Wests Tigers very well in the future.

Good post and we should all take note .... not just for AJ but similar signings.
Good sides are not built on the back of a star player. You build a good group of people which are motivated to succeed and play for each other and only then look for that golden ticket.
But WT are just starting that journey ..... not there yet but I have great hopes for our future.

Yep we can't make the good players sign for us, so what else can we do? Gotta sign someone to fill the void, sadly it's usually left overs.
