Abbey wasn't in the latest casualty listings. He could be the one to slot in at fullback.

I really don't know why people are hung up on this kid. He's a looong way from a first grade spot.

He wasn't listed because he isn't contracted to WT. He'll get a CC contract in a couple of months time (unless we're desperate) and we'll see where he's at with form and fitness throughout the year. Might get signed as number 30 in our roster. He only played 4 games last year, and 2of those he didn't even last 12 mins. Played a dozen games the season before. He's had injury after injury and needs time to physically and mentally prove he's ready play week to week for starters.

Abbey, for some, is the new Tom Humble, both are/were borderline 1st graders at best but several here were constantly touting Humble.......

We got freed up cap space 400k roughly and we got rid of a sook and someone that would have disrupted the whole team and caused havoc.

I would say that is favourable to the Wests Tigers myself.

It shows loyalty , ethics and strength. If it’s true or not , well that’s a different question entirely.
LM and Matterson both showed disloyalty and were both shown the door. The reality is , Matto IS replaceable . There is a kid somewhere just as good waiting for his chance.
We just have to be better at identifying that kid .

If that is our standard mate, then releasing EVERY unhappy player and clearing space is the way to go...

Not privy to what players are paid - I'd be guessing only - and the like replacement you have named is like in position only at this point of his career.

AJ is an okay player but I hope we aren't paying much. Unlike topflight players, he tends to get dominated when being tackled which really hampers a set of six when he's returning the ball as fullback. He's also not a strong tackler so he's not a player that has a big impact on games. He's a smart and very reliable footballer and has pace but, as others have said, he's not a very good distributor. A cheap contract and he's a very useful winger/fullback; if we're absorbing most of his contract then we're hindering our ability to improve. He's definitely not a player that will lift a side or change games. For that reason we should be saving the big dollars for players who are. Sorry to be pessimistic but I suspect, given our negotiating form, that we'd pay too much and not use our leverage based on the fact that no one else wants him and he's on an inflated contract that needs to be gotten rid of.

I just do not understand why this guy would be signed .. he is not that much of an upgrade from what is already on the books ... why not save your money and have a big dig at someone that is a huge upgrade even if you have to wait a while ! Okay but who would they target? They've still got to spend a certain amount and the amount you don't spend doesn't roll over to the next season. We have to have a certain number of players on the books in 1sts. He'd not be expensive. They've already made a big offer to Mitchell that he's turned down.
