Apologising for what lol? He is what most of thought he was. He's improved since last year where he was arguably the worst forward in first grade, but he's still far from an impactful player.
He's a good defender, has a good motor for a prop and understands the game. However he offers very little impact off the bench. We can carry two of Tamou, Twal and Seyfarth type players at most.
The Seyfarth type isn't really useful in the current high speed game. You either need to be a big post-contact metre forward who can get over the advantage line or be a forward with ball-playing ability and footwork who can create second phase play or generate quick play the balls. He'll never be the first, but with some work could be passable in the second role.
There's no problem with him being in first grade for the time being, but Utoikamanu and Musgrove offer significantly more upside in a team where we realistically will be carrying Tamou and Twal for the foreseeable future.
Carrying Twal? The guy who averages 116m a game and has a 95% tackling efficiency?
It's hard to believe that the one bloke who can be relied on every week cops this sort of flak.
