Alex Seyfarth #232

A few years ago he tested the market and fot absolutely zero bites elsewhere.

Ideally he would be player 17-20 in our team but we are so short on backrowers. We are 2 good backrowers short at least at the moemnt.

He has played better this year. All effort. Still a few dumb plays like the 80th minute play.
new Zealand warriors were after him

Roosters and Panthers were after David Fifita as well,
He just had a less than underwhelming performance in Q Cup by all reports.

Understand your answer, and I've seen it here before (Plenty)
Just because a club has interest in a Player, Doesn't make them a better one.
unfortunately...

David Fifita has half a dozen good “palm off runs” a year and people think he is a world beater…Dessie has shown him up to be a non committed, lazy player…hope we never consider signing him.

Now there is a player who is overated. I dont think anyone over rates Seyfarth - we just know that he competes which is far better than a barnstormer who turns up once in a blue moon.

Like him or hate him I’m sure most would agree that he’s improving each year and I can see a solid first grader next year.
It takes time on the paddock to improve
One example comes to mind is Leilua. Madge gave him time and he improved. Funnily enough he’s actually gone backwards since leaving

I do not understand the forums obsession for bashing Seyfarth. He is a loyal clubman who is asked to do a job & is doing it well. No, he's not setting the world on fire but is slowly improving & his decoy/line running has opened up a lot of space for that right edge for Star/Turuva to capitalise. He is not someone who is breaking the bank & his teammates seem to like having him around. At the end of the day at least you know he is a Tiger at heart & every club needs a bloke like Red in its top 30.

Gotta be a reason why...and i think several coaches have tried and failed
IF....if someone could get him playing with more hunger and desire more consistently then hed be a weapon...that was my * about him when i mentioned him last week

I thought he was good last night apart from the drop at the end. Lots of small things that don't appear on the scoreboard, for example he was the last man putting pressure on Su'A before he bombed the try.

Sure he's physically limited but he makes the most out of what god gave him. Valuable player to have in your team.
Yep, most, if not all of us rightly have some issues with him being a starter, but not many second rowers get across to the other side of the field to attempt to save situations near as often as Seyfarth does. His effort plays do not go unnoticed by me.

Seyfarth is one of the most overrated players on this forum and it’s honestly a joke how often he gets excuses made for him on here. It’s showing signs of Brooks level excuses and delusion.

His only above average quality is his defence and even then he’s good for some clangers. He would be lucky to even sniff a bench spot, let alone a starting spot in any other top 8 or even top 12 side. He’s good for a few dumb penalties and errors a game and gets dominated in just about every carry he takes.

You want an example of the latter? He had 13 runs for 69m last week with 21 post carry metres. That is a joke for a starting second rower with his experience and size.

And that isn’t a one-off game. He averages around 66m a game. As a starter who plays 80 minutes. That’s a joke. I will happily take KPP or frankly any second rower with a pulse over that anchor. He has had every opportunity to develop and has done sweet FA.
Some of your stuff is right but seyfarth on sat nite was quite good, better than I have seen before. He passed a great ball to the winger for the try, but he also had numerous offloads. And good ones around the corner, one of his offloads led eventually to a try.
Although his bad knock on in the last minute of the game, think he’s getting better not just so one dimensional.

We are moving from a low standards club historically to a club that expects first grade quality efforts. Every week we are lamenting a few brain fades from Seyfarth, eventually he’ll become a bench rotation forward and will need to cut out the errors to maintain a spot in the 17.

This. I think people on here have watched so many garbage players in this team over the last few years that it has lowered their expectations and standards significantly.

I’ll never doubt Seyfarths effort, it’s his ability or lack thereof that is the issue. Anyone with a pair of working eyes can tell what his issues are. He’s one good second rower signing away from fighting for a bench spot or being a starter in NSW Cup. While he’s no world beater, Blore would’ve been a better option that Seyfarth.

Been called negative on here for a few years for calling for our players, particularly veterans, to play at a professional level, not about to stop now that we are improving a bit.

Seyfarth is a type of player you need on a roster. He is okay and won't eat up much of your salary cap. From memory he denied a better contract from the Warriors because he wanted to stay here. He is getting better and I am happy enough with his position in the team.

Ideally we recruit a player for his position, but as Shane Richardson said, you have to sit and wait. Sometimes good players get released from contracts early, such as James Fisher-Harris going to the Warriors. But you can only get those players if your salary cap is in good shape, as those players won't stay on the market for very long.

I think that is the real issue here. Seyfarth is who we have so we have to make it work as best we can. IF there was someone banging down the door in Reggies they would push him out of the starting role. At the moment we should plan on using him for 25 with an upgrade in 26; however, as LG#1F has stated if someone drops from the tree we need to be in a positoin to jump. I expect that is why we are so lean on our cap numbers - we don't have long to fill the spots!

Yea re David Fifita... I feel the Titans pumped his tyres far too much. Not his fault.

Imagine being a 21 year old, finding form and then having the Donkeys and Titans bid over 1m to sign you. ... You sign and your form drops...

TPJ seems very similar and both Fifita and TPJ could go to say Cronulla or Easts and I reckon they would do something with them (TPJ though doesn't want too).

Were kinda lucky with T May, as whatever happened with Easts and us he likes playing that role.

Were also lucky with Seyfarth. I am 100% a member of the babygiraffeappreciationclub and up for a clubbie who puts the work in.
Now is not the "lets sign a bunch of names" now is club culture and building time.

Yea we missed the chance at AFB... But I really doubt he would even touch here due to where we were at.

100% agree, we now hunt for people to fit the exact position we need. Right now we need another 2RF badly and that's it. We don't go signing massive min/max good on paper deals. Fewer signings with us building the blokes we got...

So our team can GEL

Richo should be back in a week or so and hopefully those cap number start to fill before June 30.

Hoping some of those signings he was talking about are good ones and for before the June 30 cut off and not next season.
