Was thinking if the NRL and Clubs let their players in the off season,if they choose to play in Japanese Rugby or some of the European union competitions which don't conflict with the NRL seasons.
This would increase the income that players could generate and make it far more difficult to be poached by rival codes and ESL.
It may showcase the NRL to a new audience, the Japanese fans may switch on to the WT's to watch Benji play casue they have seen him play in there league. Could generate a new revenue stream in the long term.
There would be disadvantages to the clubs by having there players unavailable in pre season, their fitness would prob not be adversely effected, however they would be not able to learn new systems in attack and defence, i think they could prob catch up, and all sides would be in the same boat.
