I just have a quick question. It may have already been raised but I haven't read back through all the posts, if so, my apologies.
Is there any inkling that Aloiai may have gotten his nose out of joint because WT signed Tamou and was pushed down in the rankings slightly?

Nope

the locker room on **Facebook**

There's your problem.

You edited out the part where I said it has the biggest following for league content. Even current NRL players are heavily affiliated with it

Yes Facebook/Instagram, but manipulation can hurt the club, and as it’s been made to believe...a toxic environment by a person who would have a significant backing by neutral RL fans and actual players

I'm glad this is sorted, there's a negative aspect of having the Aloiai situation hanging over the Tigers all offseason. It would be a media circus and potentially distracting, imagine if we had Josh A rocking up to training with his gear on but training separate to the other players. Or not turning up at all and Tigers having to go through the rigamarole of warning and fining him. Disruptive.

“As part of the release, Wests Tigers have also agreed to an undisclosed commercial settlement with Josh’s new club.“

They got something from manly, no idea what.

I doubt if we will ever know.

I previously stated as part of a previous post,

"As some others have said, if we do get something of significant value from Manly and it is not put out in the public for all to see, then it is a pretty bad look for us and our tough talking leaders".

The only conclusion I can draw from the current situation is that the compensation that we received from Manly was of such an insignificant amount that Wests Tigers management are too embarrassed to let us know and will no doubt use our chairman's legal expertise to claim that it is "Commercial in Confidence" or some similar cop out.

So you're saying we capitulated because we haven't disclosed the sum paid...

Yet you wouldn't question our professionalism if we aired the compensation paid to us?

Yes. I think we will find some sort of excuse or reason that we cannot disclose the amount, which I believe makes as look weak and as if we have once again rolled over.

If it was a significant amount (which I some how doubt) and there was not some sort of legal impediment to us disclosing the terms of the compensation, I think it would be very professional of us to disclose it as a deterrent to other clubs trying to encourage players to skip out on their contracts.

What if it was Manly that didn't want it disclosed?

It may very well have been Manly that didn't want it disclosed, but we have the legal eagle chairman who came out in the media all guns blazing and saying how we were going to get compensation for releasing Josh from his contract.

He's the one that should have taken a position of strength and written up a deal that made Manly admit that they were providing compensation to us and some sort of an indication that it wasn't just a small token amount.

We needed to really draw a line in the sand to show we aren't push overs.

Don't get me wrong, I think we have overall come out in front with this deal but we have been rolled in the past and we needed to take a really tough stance on this occasion so that it doesn't happen in the future and at the same time send a strong message to the NRL that changes need to be made and soon.

Hank, a lot of what’s negotiated is not publicly disclosed and for good reason. I would imagine that these sort of deals mostly have all parties walking away reasonably happy with the outcome. However, sometimes there may be big winners. Those who win big, I would think have had the courtesy to not follow up with publicly humiliating their opponent. Firstly, there’s no credibility and nothing to be gained. Secondly, you may need to sit across the table again one day.
We need to be good winners.

I didn't edit anything, I just intimated I had an issue with Facebook and people who post rumours on there without substantiation, to drive their own product and own advertising revenues.

Personally I don't care what's on Facebook or how it's manipulated by some random. All that matters for the Wests Tigers, wrt public opinion, is whether they can (a) grow the fanbase and (b) sell to the fanbase (memberships, merch, tix).

Sure, some folks will decide not to buy tickets or become members because of something they read on Facebook. But if those people can be turned so easily, by rumour and innuendo, you've already lost the battle trying to win them over anyway. There are people who still believe what Don Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon tweets, in spite of everything that's happened, and those folks are a lost cause.

If Tigers win football games, none of the other stuff matters, so the focus needs to be on winning football and not engaging with the noise that dominates the offseason.

Yeah fair point I suppose, being a tigers supporter has made us all thick skinned ?

What i find interesting is an old article on NRL about why Matterson left the club.

Matterson is understood to still be in contact with the likes of Benji Marshall Alex Twal and childhood friend Josh Aloiai, though other Tigers are believed to still feel let down by his walk out.

Well 2 have already gone this last season......

Never said about $ but that's why Aloiai left so seems more likely now was all about $.
