Notwithstanding the enormous difference in the calibre of the roosters, they are a professional outfit, from the top to the last player on their roster.
Tonight, I don’t think any of us can find any reasons for our loss other than the huge difference in class. To think we were going to win this game (on the back of the last two) was a little utopistic, if not altogether unrealistic.
What the game has shown (to me) is that it was like watching amateurs playing professionals. Note, I am not lamenting a lack of effort (admirable) but rather what the benchmark needs to be if we are to be (and remain competitive).
Melbourne next week will be another chance to see if at least we (as a collective club) have learned something from tonight.
PS - Ironically we did a lot worse with the older players returning. At least one seemed more intent in causing trouble than getting down to what he is paid to do.
