An experiment for the trials

I'd like to see how switching Ayshford and Lawrence would go.

I know it would be hard to break up our potent left side, but i think it would be worth trying in the trials for these reason:

1.Lawrence has stated he'd be happy to play right centre and it would enhance his rep chances as NSW have no right centres.

2.Ayshford struggles passing the ball to his right, but he doesnt have that problem passing right to left. I think the main area he fell down last year was his service to his winger, but on the left, i think his game could go to another level.

Its just something i think should be given a go, if it doesnt succeed well nothing has been lost. But one thing that irks me about todays game is all this "left" and "right" side crap. Players are being pigeon holed into one side at a very young age…..its so stupid. For all we know, Lawrence could be even better on the right..........he is right handed so i think it would help bring his right foot step into play a bit more.

I saw so many good signs from Blake last year, he looks like a combination of Matt King, Peter Jackson and Greame Bradley.

Id like to see Mullany play fullback during the trials too see how he goes against the big boys. If hes expressive he might be able to make fullback his own.

There are still a few positions up for grabs, fullback and halfback are the two that im more concerned about, mullany is certainly a talent, and a specialist fullback, i too would like to see him there in the trials,as for halfback im still not convinced moltzen is the answer.i think id give lui first crack..

don't fix something that's not broken. ie leave lawrence where he is. so what if one side is more potent than the other. happens with every team. however lawrence might have a new partner outside him for at least the first few weeks.

worth a shot in a trial, even if only for one half. who knows, lawrence might be better at right and ayshford at left

I think u missed my point. Its not about one side being stronger than the other, its about improving Ayshford and the team. And it is broken, because Ayshford is struggling to pass on the right side. Im confident a move to the left will improve Ayshfords game, but not sure about Lawrence, but thats what trials are for. Maybe Lawrence will flourish on the right and all of a sudden we are potent on both sides. Cant hurt to try for a game.

With moltzen you never losta game when he was at half..
nothing against lui but when you had him your season ended..

i would look towards moltzen at half and lui off the bench with either lazarus or mullaney at the back..

but i have always thought trials are irrelevant and arana will be at half most probably

And I think you missed my point haha. I was saying dont change Lawrence's position. That's not broken. So dont change that.
They can try it out but there's no point getting two players to learn two different positions-ish, when we can try to build on Ayshford's passing game instead. Just trying to minimise disruption.

Is it something thats simply a matter of trying out in the trials, one or two games, or would there be more to it re: lots of prelim training in this manner and if this experiment does not come off is it a lot of time and energy - wasted?
Thats probably more what needs to be weighed up.
Personally Im not sold on Ayshford, he doesnt even LOOK to pass, whats his real position? Its not a centre.

Ayshford was brought to the club as a Roosters junior with the intention of becoming a lock. He played for BRET in 2007 mixing between centre, five eight and lock. Back then he was scrawny as and looked weird with the 13 on his back. Through the 20's in 2008 he played centre. 2009 he played 5/8 for BRET then both 5/8 and mostly centre for first grade. He's openly stated in interviews he's being groomed into a lock. However I think he's got a perfect build for a centre and wouldnt mind seeing him stay there. If he does move to lock it'll be more of a ball playing role I would imagine rather than what the Tigers used the lock as this year, pretty much a 3rd front rower as Sheens has said openly. Remember what Chris Lawrence has gone through. Started on the wing. Played a bit of centre. Moved to lock (gee that was a hilarious few weeks). Hyped up us partnering Benji in the halves this year at 5/8 which never happened, but the whole time he's been in first grade he's played his best footy at centre.

You'd be surprised how much of a difference it is switching from the right to left side and vice versa. It may not seem it but the defensive game is completely different. Lawrence's defence when he came into the top grade was questionable to say the least and he's improved that immensely, so I wouldn't want to negate what he's worked on so hard by changing his game. Ayshford is still inexperienced and can only imagine a full off season after playing FG that we'll see him become a solid first grader and an integral part of the team come 2010.

Who will be his new partner?

Well Tuiaki is still not 100% to be back for Round 1\. I'd say Ryan will have the other wing so I'm guessing either Tupou or Brown will hold the other wing until Tuiaki comes back, if he does come back to the wing is another question.

Probably Ryan, but I'm sure Tupou and Brown would be also in line for the right wing spot, and there's also Daniela.

Well who's the pick , there"s half a dozen players who could play wing. i guess the trials will answer the question.

Well who's the pick

2\. Pritchard…

On Ayshford leave him where he is...thought he had a great debut season....he certainly can poke through the line....he can pass....how often will come with more experience in the right centre postion.....although he wouldn't be out of place down the left...had a good combination with Moltzen and Dunley in 2008....

Chris Lawrence owns the left side for mine both in attack and DEFENSE.....move him....nonsense.....

I want to see plenty of Dwyer, Schirnack J., Mataka, Akeripa and Fafita in the trials.....
