An investigation of the Wests Tigers “big” signings

Good God! I read the title of the thread and thought we were one of the teams being investigated for cap breaches! Talk about having a heart attack! :astonished:

Yep, same here! On the plus side it fixed my constipation.

Lost the little credibility he had left when he wrote "The club still needs to find a hooker".

He went in with none, came out with less. Does not mention Twal who I thought was great on debut

Packer has impressed in his return to the League and has been rewarded with a $1 million contract over four years – again, good business from the Tigers.

What a bargain picking up Packer for 250K a year. This article is absolute tripe.

Where did the bloke actually get those figures from?

ha ha… i was thinking that if they did indeed sign Packer for that then I'd rate it 11/10!
it is so obviously not the case: everyone knows Packers are good with money...

i was looking forward to the article when i started to be honest. i enjoy views on these things, but whoever this guy is just comes across as ignorant and pompous.

i see the signings - overall - as very astute, and particularly targeted to achieve both culture and game plan.

should probably stick to his strengths (ancient numerology apparently... i mean, "xiii"? really?).
at least he had a go at being a writer i guess...

Myles Stedman

Well Myles, you obviously know nothing and you set out to prove it.

A ad-hoc of a team - no it isn't, players bought, plus the players retained, plus the players to come were picked to do a job. That is to say be a well oiled team rather than a team of stars. This is the plan of the coach or should he throw his plans out the window and use your experience as an NRL coach to put a team together for 2018.

You obviously did not do your homework and you get a big fail for that.

* Every man and his dog knows that Lolohea was bought to replace Tedesco at Full back.
* That Packer will earn more than twice the figure you are quoting.
* Why talk about Connor Watson who has not signed.
* Why do you not talk about Thompson and Twal who have signed.
* Not even close with most of your ratings.
* You say "Russell Packer on his way up to Leichhardt Oval" - wrong again, home base is Concord.

2/10

Unlike some, I don't find this article offensive. Incorrect facts aside, I think his ratings are whacky in parts but it's a subjective stab in the dark so I'm not particularly fussed about that.

Whenever you turn such a large part of the playing roster over there are going to be huge question marks on how the new team will gel. Frankly, we don't know whether the team will do well or not and after half a decade of serving up crap sandwiches, it's fair that the onus is on the Wests Tigers.

Until then no one is going to be singing the praises of the club pre-emptively. Anyone who has done that in the past has been burnt time and again, so I accept the scepticism.

**_Have Wests Tigers attempted to profit from this catch cry in the midst of a year where their place in the competition has once again come into question? You bet they have_**

I do like how a rumor is used as the anchor for authority in the rest of the article. So we go from a club rebuilding after a few years of poor choices to a club panic buying to do anything to keep the side in the NRL.

Will some of these signings be a bust - you can bet on it. The law of averages says so. That's half the fun of following a football team!!

I don't think it's a bad article. It's just an opinion and it's better than a lot of the stuff that is on Fox or the DT.

I think though we need a good squad and we just have to see how that squad develops. We aren't a top 4 side with the squad we have for next year. I think though we look better than this year and we've gotten rid of some real prats.

Can any moron get an article published on zero tackle ?

The simple answer is "yes". It's basically a curated blog that uses content generated by (unpaid) users as the framework around which it sells ad space. Basically it's no more "journalism" than this site.

Here's how you can write for them too: https://www.zerotackle.com/write-for-us/

Things to note:
1) You can get pretty much anything published. If you wanted to write "10 reasons why the Roosters should be thrown out of the NRL" and it was not libellous and had a few stats thrown in (crowd numbers or whatever) I'm sure it would be published.
2) There's no payment. So this definitively isn't professional writing.

In short, the original article posted here was likely written by an enthusiastic but entirely unqualified 19-year-old who's studying journalism at TAFE and needs to have something in his portfolio. Getting wound up about it is about as pointless as taking seriously the views of your mate's nephew, the guy at the bar when the game's on who thinks we should be signing Jonathan Thurston, or Andrew Bolt.

They forgot our greatest signing Corey Thompson.

Top marks kafta! You called it early.

Milne was "low risk" according to the article…....sure he was :brick:
And the McQueen assessment has been called a wide too so far from umpire Dickie Bird.

All in all, the author of this article pretty much got it all wrong, especially about WT not being really capable of making the 8.
