ANASTA, PETTYBOURNE & THOMPSON

of the three signed (Anasta, Pettybourne and Thompson), I am very fond, and keen to see Pettybourne and Thompson in Wests Tigers colours next season. Pettybourne from what I've seen runs very hard and tackles hard, and gives his all, which I would love to see him do next year. Ive also seen quite a fair bit of Bodene Thompson, and I'm a big fan of him. He's an aggressive player with a fair bit of mongrel, which quite frankly, is needed for the Tigs. Thompson and Pettybourne will be in the starting 17 next season! Anasta is an unusual signing. Talking to a few of my mates who are hardcore Roosters fans, and they were happy to see him go, however, they also said he played his best footy when he played in the back row (2010, when they made the finals) - from memory, he was fairly solid in the lock/second row position and would hope he plays there, and not in the five-eighth position!!

100% Agree, these 3 can add something to the team mainly Pettybourne and Thompson. Anasta is obviously a good player but unusual as we have so many options in the halves (however, havent settled on a combo and have been struggling) And if we do sign Lewis he would be out lock? And then there's Bell who has played so well there so unsure where we are going to fit Anasta in?

My problem with Anasta is that he argues with the referees and I hope he doesn't do that at the tigers, I have heard that pettybourne is quite good but he can't hold the ball. However, I am not sure how good Bodene Thompson is though but I guess we will find out next year if he starts that is.

anasta won't be captain so that won't be an issue

In hindsight I wish we DIDNOT sign these 3\. We would have been better to sign Lewis only.

Read his post again. he said "in hindsight"

Braith HAS to be played in the 2nd row.

there are two second rowers going around atm that basically play like 2nd 5/8s.

Wade Graham and Glenn Stewart.
neither are the type of player who is going to hit a hole, or crash through a defensive line, but both are fantastic players who can create opportunites.

Braith could be that type of player…...at least i hope !

Personally i like all three signings! I know they are not Lewis but the club would not have signed them if the club felt like they would not benefit the team. Anasta will be handy to have just for his experience.

We have Robbie/Benji ahead of Anasta, so I doubt we will see him questioning refs….and if he does Sheens should deliver a STFU quick smart.

 funny call.

i could be in the minority here, but i think anasta should be above benji next year in the leadership line… from the outside looking in, anasta seems to be a better leader to me. yes i know benji is captain of NZ, but im not sold on benji's leadership credentials - he still seems to be "one of the boys". leaders need to make tough decisions, set an example and get hard on people who slacken off. im not sure if benji is the right person for this, not at the moment anyway. as some have suggested since the luke lewis case came up, your best player isnt always a good leader

Steveo Marshall has leadership written all over him, he pulls blokes into line at training and leads by example at training too, his professionalism at training is also something sheens would love the younger guys to follow.. The players want to play for him and he is a great talker…
Leadership written all over him

ok fair enough, you sound as though you have the inside scoop. as i said, that was just my impressions from the outside looking in

Real leaders play for the team and are respected for it.
I think they all respect his professionalism and skill but he is too much of an individual in his playing attitude to be a great captain (at least yet).
Some of the silly things he has tried when we have been holding on to a tight lead or done to throw away chances of winning aren't what you want your leader to be doing.

Very happy with the anasta signing. He brings experience, a great kicking game, and will be a great influence…

Looks like he bites easily….and other teams know it.

Yeah but don't mind that either. Sometimes I think we are missing that aggro.
