Anasta's "experience and guidance"

Ok so most people reckon he provides this in bucket loads.

If that includes dropping balls, kicking balls dead, grubber kicking on 4th play, not producing good, calm options to end our sets maybe they are right.

As soon as Austin came on we at least had a threat going direct with a bit of speed and footwork. And this was Austin playing the totally unfamiliar position of 9!! Imagine what he could give us from Starting @ 6.

Ok we got the win, but lets be honest we got lucky with 2 intercept tries and Sandow kicking 1 from 4\. Our forwards were immense and thats the reason we stayed in the game. Inside the opposition 20 we were very poor today and that was Braiths job to step up and organise things.

I was very dissapointed but not at all surprised. After all todays game was just a copy of what he has produced the last few years. No runs, single digit tackles, plenty of errors.

What am i missing?!?!?
 
First time this year I agree. You had a great career braith- a better career than what most fans these days reckon but as long as Austin and brooks are there- you shouldn't be playing another NRL game.

I said somewhere in the pre-season that his "experience and guidance" is a myth. It's not like Austin isn't capable of offering the same thing. For a young fella he's a very professional and thoughtful dude.
 
Agreed with you last week Eddie and can only agree with your comments again this.Anasta is past his sell by date and has been ever since we signed him.Time to retire.
 
It is a 100% myth. His experience and guidance out there saw us look like a complete rabble on last plays and in the opposition 20.
 
Prior to this season, I expressed the opinion Anasta has little to offer. Through the start of this season, I reckon I've been giving Anasta the benefit of the doubt because Brooks himself has said he appreciates the steadying influence.

I was concerned prior to this game that, in the absence of Farah, Anasta would feel pressured to overplay his hand. After this game I think the writing is on the wall. Austin's creativity and motivation is worth pursuing instead of any perceived 'steadying' influence.

Win or lose, I'd rather see the boys form their combinations and get creative. Anasta has had his day in the sun.
 
100% myth. All he does is put pressure on everyone else.

Suggested that he should be playing off bench this week, but consensus was that he needed to come back in to bring some stability….i love being right.
 
I dont know if Austin could have steadied the ship from 6 as well as he did at 9, he really did well, he was awesome. As long as RF is out, we need Austin to play the role more than the position, we are guided from Hooker, Austin can do it, thus we unfortunately need Braith for a while longer.
 
Braith ill hang around for a little while yet.

After today I envision Austin to hooker until Robbie is back and then hopefully moving to 5/8 to replace Anasta but who knows.
 
It is amazing though many people were horrified with the few of us who suggested Austin offered more. Always have faith in youth and hunger!! Experience is only valuable when players are playing WELL. Guys like Galloway, Farah, Richards offer EXPERIENCE. Braith just slows us down and gives us a head ache.

I think experience is a myth in general. What matters is making the right decisions at the right time.

The question is who does this better Anasta or Austin. To me its pretty obvious that Anasta isn't the best player in his best position and he is definitely not the best option in any other position.
 
"Experience" for me is veteren players PLAYING WELL. That is what Richards, Farah, Woods, Galloway, Fulton do most weeks.

Anasta just doesn't have any game anymore. I don't hate the bloke, i just feel sorry for him. He should have retired after the Chooks punted him.

I do give him credit for being a professional and helping Brooks and co off the paddock. This is where he is most valuable. If he was an assistant coach or 20s coach, or our back up five-eight i would be all for it!!
 
Austen earned the 6 pre season imo.

Give it to him potter stop being stubborn!

I just don't know how Anasta gets the stats he has achieved last few years. Seems to hide behind the ruck for most of the game.
 
Austin turned that game for us today; he has to be in the 17\. Braith is the most likely contender to make way for him; but it is a big call while Robbie is out.
 
i think he only has about 3 or 4 missed tackles for the year.
plays a huge part when the team has been known forever as a poor defensive unit.
in most coaches eyes anasta is the safe option at this stage
 
I posted this after Austin's first game, we can't afford to carry Anasta whilst we have a superior option in reggies.

I think Anasta's defence this year has been top-rate, but he has stifled most attacking plays on his edge, yesterday was no different.

I like the guy, I used to hate how good he was for Dogs and Roosters, but his time has come. We also have superior players in the backrow.
