Andrew Voss Commented On The WT Playing Jersey During Commentary Today

I was at the game. Thought the jersey was awful. We should have 3 variations of the main black, with colours rotated with the main being white and orange, with the other 2 colours as the V. Simple, clean, easily recognised.

Is this grey jersey designed to put the opposition to sleep?

Cant stand his dribble during the game… Be a goose in breaks of play etc, but as the game is in play, keep it relevant.

I reckon he reads this forum and was simply feeding some of you blokes.

I'm not convinced this jersey looks good, but the quicker WT creates its own identity as a stand alone club seperate to our owners, the better this franchise will become.

Seriously how many threads do we need on this?

Though I like Vossy as a commentator, he is years behind on the whole Wests Tigers merger, we are no longer Western Suburbs or Balmain and are trying to create a single identity so the whole wear orange one week, black the next is redundant. If the club wants to try different things then let them.

And to say it again ('cause I am sure I have said it on here several times);

The Orange jersey from last year apparently didn't sell very well thus why it was dropped. The grey was something ISC wanted to try, and good on the club for taking a risk on a different design that meets the need for a clash design.

For me the grey jersey is perfectly fine, I was out there wearing it today and have no issue with the design or the use of what is a tertiary colour for us (as it is not the first time it has featured on one of our jerseys, it is just that it has never been used to this extent), but then again I would be fine if we ran out in fluro pink and green polka dots so long as it was still the Wests Tigers playing a brand of football I love to see and doing the club and its fans proud because that is what really matters, not what we wear.

Agree with you Craegus.

I bought one because it's different and it's more "wearable" for day to day getting around.

Good to see the club get away from tradition with the alternate strip.

The jersey gets lots of positive comments from younger kids, females and none tigers supporters as a good looking Jersey.

If you want tradition buy the main strip.

I like the jersey but seriously, is it really a big issue worth repeating? The tigers are creating their own identity away from Balmain/Wests. Chances are the jersey will be gone next year anyway. Enough is enough, we're all just commenting the same thing as the last thread about the jersey.

If you don't like it then don't buy it. We have 4-5 other jerseys you can buy and they come in orange and black. This is a variation designed to appeal to a certain demographic of our supporter base and has been pretty successful.

We wore a white jersey yesterday and we won. Who cares what colour jersey we we wearing ! Next week we most probably won't be wearing it.

I would take a pink, purple and yellow jersey every week if it gets us a premiership

This has been discusse ad nausem already. Voss is right. The white and grey jersey is not at all representative of the Tigers. It looks way too generic, creates no links with our brand and is just plain dull.

How many people who buy jerseys wear them anywhere other than to a match (or at home/pub on a matchday)? Very, very few. I don't recall seeing any Tigers, Souths, Parra, Dogs jerseys etc on the street. An occasional one here or there, and they're usually a retro jersey anyway (and quite possibly just a hipster trying to be cool).

We are a 3 coloured club. The club has been at lengths to reaffirm this in recent years. Grey is not a part of the club, and should not form part of any on field merch. It's very basic marketing principles. Stick to what distinguishes you from your competitors.

Have grey on training jerseys and that should be more than enough to appease those who want more variety/streetwear.

Wests Tigers colours are black, white and gold/orange. Forget Balmain or Wests, these are OUR colours and we should stick with them at all times.

Wow! Let's just close down the forum then because Balmain boy has spoken and he sees and knows all.

You are entitled to your opinion mate and so is everyone else.

I have to agree to disagree with you on this mate. I see lots of people wearing jerseys away from the footy. At present you can't go too far without seeing a Soufs Jersey most days when out and about.

When I pay $150+ for a jersey I want to wear it as much as possible. I like the new alternate for that reason and if it was a training strip they wouldn't sell as many.

I follow the NBA closely and look at their Jerseys. Sleeves, Spanish logos, all sorts of colours, Chinese translation of their team names on the jerseys, Camo etc.

I didn't like the jersey at first, but it has warmed on me. I think the point if it might be that the new supplier can see that there is only so much you can do with the colours black, white and orange in terms of merchandise colour schemes. Some of the nicest polo shirts I have seen are red, green and grey. It opens up so many more opportunities for more attractive merchandise as the main Wests Tigers colours can be used in a different way against a base colour like grey. You can already see it in the training shirts.

The storm have a great colour scheme in terms of polos and shirts. I hope our shirts and accessories improve, and this year appears to be much better than past years.

My 4 yr old Nephew said 'why are the Tigers in grey?". That about sums it up for me. The kids don't know who they are watching any more as our strip and colours change yearly. A reason why I haven't bought a new jersey in years as well.

you see teams the world over constantly changing their current strip for this very reason. kids in particular are likely to see a jersey and say "thats not even this years jersey" or whatever. kids are a massive market for merchandising and companies play on peer pressure to have the latest anything.

also, if teams never changed their jerseys there would be no such thing as retro jerseys, would there?! you therefore have to change strip to create change so that old strips will become retro….

the marketing idea is based on planned obsolescence. if bic made biros that lasted forever they wouldve gone out of business years ago....

thats true but you can still change designs with the same core colours of orange, white and black.

this years looks nothing like 2010, nor anything like 2005.

i personally loved last years orange one (got one at the end of season sale for $70) but whites fine too.

i guess im like a kid!!

I get excited when we run out in our colours…..and when we dont i get bummed.

Id forgotten about the grey, and when they ran out i was like......oh no!!! Booo!!

And where i was sitting the feeling was universal......a collective groan!

yeh definitely. i think orange is the colour unique to the tigers (in the nrl) and should be its trademark so to speak. and they could have had the very same design with the orange instead of the grey…which likely wouldve looked way better! * but as Craegus pointed, the orange strip just didnt sell well.

*paging Dr Craegus!paging Dr Craegus!

still, i suppose i am more of the mindset that i am quite happy for them to have a colour other than the traditional ones as it is associated with neither of the foundation clubs.

a lot of people, eg; Voss, continually refer back to balmain and wests and after 15 odd years (some more odd than others!) i like to see the club as simply Wests Tigers and support moves that might help solidify them as an entity of themselves.

Yeah,I was disapointed when they ran out in that strip. The Jersey layout is alright but why wouldnt you use the team colours. I didnt see any grey In the grandstands….

I'm a Chelsea supporter in the EPL and their away strip is yellow with a small splash of blue.

They are known as the "Blues", their main strip is blue with a bit of white. Associate yellow with Chelsea? Never, but there you have it.

I'm sure a lot of Chelsea fans won't buy the yellow strip but a lot would.

Our grey strip won't last if no-one but me buys one. At the end of the day our jerseys last for 3 years anyway before another design comes out and gets people arguing again.
