Another dig at Benji from our friends at the DT

SOMETIMES this columnist gets the impression Benji Marshall needs a decent kick in the backside, preferably from the size 12 boot of Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys.

During the week, the Tigers superstar was approached by a young female cadet journalist from The Daily Telegraph to do a story about our NRL heroes in school classrooms.

He refused. It's not the first time Benji has behaved like a big sook with Daily Telegraph staff.

League writers don't mind. They move on to another player or another club.

But to brush an ambitious junior reporter is another matter entirely.

Maybe the NRL and the Wests Tigers should show some backbone and leadership like the NFL did last week.

New York Giants star Osi Umenyiora was fined $20,000 by the NFL on Wednesday, a few hours after he missed a mandatory morning media session.

"I misunderstood the schedule," Umenyiora said in a statement "It won't happen again, and I will be at tomorrow's media session and available after the game. I apologise for any inconvenience my absence this morning may have caused."

Way to go Phil. You and your cronies have slandered the mans name so many times that have bordered on character assassination and then you have the hide to turn around and play the victim when Benji shows you the same amount of respect you have shown him. You are the sook mate. You are the one who needs the kick. You are a fool of the highest order without one ounce of integrity. Aything to sell a few papers aye Phil?

Perhaps this cadet journo might learn a thing or two about the ethics of their employer and get out before they're infected with the same disease…

Why bother reading that publication? It's the print version of A Current Affair or Today Tonight.

All garbage that should be treated accordingly.

This would look like a pretty standard PR piece that should of been cleared with the players manager or club first. While I understand players receive plenty of requests for comment on regular occasions, they also have a right to offer a "no comment" or refuse any such interview.

Stay tuned… I'd expect Humphries to bring he'll down on the DT after that article!

"He refused. It's not the first time Benji has behaved like a big sook with Daily Telegraph staff."

Give yourself an uppercut Phil. Take a good hard look at some of the crap that yourself and the DT has dished out to Benji and the Tigers, see if you can put two and two together to work out why he would have refused to do an interview…

DT is a disgrace!

Why would Benji talk to any one from the DT after the way they treated him over the McDonalds affair.

**[edited by Mods]**

I am Boycotting the DT for now on,i've have enough all that "the Magpies are dead" B/S followed by this enough is enough,Brushed. :rant

Expect more anti- Benji stories and more "feel good" Carney stories until his next indiscretion. Rothfield is a germ. Bring on Rd 1 so we can belt his Sharks.

Rothfield you're a joke , laughing stock and most of all a **[edited by Mods]** !

To quote our PM " don't write crap ! "

Benji does provide comments to the daily tele sometimes , if I was humid would give them nothing …....

Let's not forgot ( amongst many other things ) the DTs role in publicizing the crap FALSE rumours last year .....

My thoughts exactly. Once a tool, always a tool.

Rothfield I have saying for you "You reap what you sow"

If the DT wants to treat our players and our club like crap the reverse can occur and if you don't like it you know what you can do about it

Didnt read it as I boycotted this trash years ago.

Talk about a sook…That drunkard Rothfield loves sticking it to Benji. His constant character assassinations are disgraceful. I really hope Humphries gets into this scum bag.

Good on Benji, shows what a class act he really is…! and what sc*m Rothfield is when he doesn't get his way...

Actually had another thought Instead of the Tigers fining Benji $20 k We could use the money to have a hitman take out Rothfield

Money well spent imo

If Todd Carney had refused an interview with a young journalist from the Sydney Morning Herald Rothfield would have had a go at the SMH, not the player.

I don't blame Benji in the least for this. He was dragged through the mud by the DT, and the rest of our club has been shit on at different points too.

But as one of the most high profile players in the game, at some point Benji will have to grit his teeth and do the professional thing which is answer a few questions.

As awful at the DT are, they reach a hell of allot of people. After a while the club will only harm itself if we continue to ignore them. We will have to dance with the devil sooner or later.

I thought Benji would have been in camp with the All Stars & all I have heard is positive feedback about how accomodating both All Star teams had been during the week especially the work they have done with youth groups. I am starting to see why people like Wayne Bennett avoid the press.
