SOMETIMES this columnist gets the impression Benji Marshall needs a decent kick in the backside, preferably from the size 12 boot of Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys.
During the week, the Tigers superstar was approached by a young female cadet journalist from The Daily Telegraph to do a story about our NRL heroes in school classrooms.
He refused. It's not the first time Benji has behaved like a big sook with Daily Telegraph staff.
League writers don't mind. They move on to another player or another club.
But to brush an ambitious junior reporter is another matter entirely.
Maybe the NRL and the Wests Tigers should show some backbone and leadership like the NFL did last week.
New York Giants star Osi Umenyiora was fined $20,000 by the NFL on Wednesday, a few hours after he missed a mandatory morning media session.
"I misunderstood the schedule," Umenyiora said in a statement "It won't happen again, and I will be at tomorrow's media session and available after the game. I apologise for any inconvenience my absence this morning may have caused."
