Kurt Gidley is far and away NSW best hooker. Stuart had a plan to bring Gidley on late in the half to exploit tired forwards, but the fact is, Gidley is widely known to be the fittest player in the compitition and could play 80 minutes and not blow out a candle. I see no reason why Gidley shouldnt be the starting hooker.

Can't agree, Farah is a better hooker than Gidley however the way selections are at the moment, Gidley will be picked ahead of Farah and Ennis ahead of both for hooker. The strength of Gidley is his ability to cover a number of positions.

The problem with starting Gidley at hooker is that he is also the reserve back. If the fullback goes down for eg, Gidley would take over, but if he has started at 9, it leaves the team without a decent dummy half. Having Luke Lewis at dummy half for 70 minutes would be an issue. I concede that Bird and Scott can cover 6, 4, 3 but reshuffles are usually disruptive, especially when a fatigued forward moves out wide. This is why Dean Young comes into calculations, despite being severely over rated IMO. Unfortunately for Farah, risk taking, creative hookers who cant play back row but can fill in at halfback and are not in demand ATM.
