Anthony Field wants to buy Wests Tigers

We almost had two weeks of not be bagged in the press and because of Anothoy Field i have a wet dream about Balmain and Benny Elias telling anybody who would listen to his dribble that he is right and he can raise the money we are back to square 1 all over again. I would love for West Magpies to come back in their own identity but the simple fact it is not ever going to happen, move on or stop following the NRL.

West Tigers are slowing moving in the right direction embrace or just F off.
 
When I decided over two decades ago to be a Wests Tigers fan I meant it and as such I don't give a dam about a football club called Balmain Tigers or a football club called Western Suburbs Magpies for that matter .So when I keep reading about who owns 90% and who owns 10% and who paid whos debt my reaction is I don't care !
I just want to support a football club called Wests Tigers and personally wish the original components would just fold and all teams are called Wests Tigers
I understand that some strongly disagree with this and hold dearly onto the heritage and memories etc
Ok everyone's entitled to their opinion but I'm certain if the whole thing was one club from head to toe it would be a stronger NRL entity

Facts:
- The NRL played stick/carrots with the BT and WSM;
- Stick - merge or both vanish - they were serious, see how they dealt with the Souths.​
- carrots - the merged identity will receive x M$​

We accepted to merge, and have received the money. From then on, any talk like: we added xx% of money, so we have earned the right to take over the club and re-register under WhateverName, will not be accepted:
- by the NRL;
- fans of the WT;
- fans of BT.
Overall, we will create a variant of NSydney Bears, with lot of fans and proud history, that will be without the NRL club and will be lost to the game.
 
We've all.come a long way, we've all grown and most have matured.
Those of us who have been here a long time will likely agree this thread 10-15 years ago would've created a shitstorm, be locked by now and several members in the cooler.
Good to see we are past all that divisive content.
Respect the past

Dream about the future

I don’t understand your last paragraph.
We have a proud history with lots of fans on both sides and will live on through the wests tigers branding. I love the fact we have heritage from 2 foundation clubs.

Are you saying they will definitely be wiped from the competition? IMO worst case will be relocation which would be devastating but should still maintain the heritage?

I think a lot of it is just time passing too.

The next generation of fans (the ones in their early 20’s now) were born after the merger so have no connection at all to Balmain or Western Suburbs.
 
Thanks champion @KingRobbie, you're right.
Time moves on and the fan base does too.

However, rugby league history has been unkind to the Wests side of the merger, and the events of the 80s still irk all who can remember and would never want that pain again:

"1983 - The NSWRL voted to reduce the competition to twelve clubs by excluding Newtown and Western Suburbs. Wests took the issue to court and after a long hard fight won their reinstatement."

This story only made it to press because gutter journalism is alive and well, especially at The Daily Telegraph.
The story was concocted, corny and ripe for their front page headline, with a tongue in cheek shot at the Wests Tigers to boot!

Brush this guys , it’s a big nothing , we are Now Wests Tigers , that’s it , there will never ever be a going back , this stuff just doesn’t do justice anymore to either side , be proud of OUR Wests Tigers , embrace and enjoy your team

This is the issue in the whole saga - how did Dean Ritchie get to know what dreams Wiggles have. Surely Field knew when he told Benny what his dream was it was going to end up in the press. Rent a quote benny can't help himself and goes out of his way to knock WT.
 
Not a week goes by that there is not someone on the internet who calls for the Magpies and or Balmain to be reinstated and the merger to be folded - and they are supported by a few like thinking people or ignored by most who have moved on. The only reason this is news is because Anthony Field has the financial capital that the general population could only dream about. If he really wanted to invest in Balmain in any capacity he could have already.
