Any decent American Props?

Is there any props in the American comp that we could look at. And should we start looking at some U.S. collages for some future prospects?

What you think guys?

Well I'd admire your approach to thinking outside the square but this could be too weird even for Sheens. Then again we did once have a Russian player… Standard of the US comps is very much below NRL or even Bundy Cup. I believe one of their better players (possibly a prop) had a decent season in one of the Qld Comps (maybe the Qld cup).

As for the US Colleges, teaching someone like that to play league is intriguing but very hard work - they are very different games. Besides your starting point would be guys not good enough for the NFL (the salary difference is huge).

Lastly the track record of American imports is fairly lousy. The names Manfred Moore and that Smith guy from Newcastle come to mind.

Thanks for the reply just a idea. Any others?

Whilst we are looking outside the box, maybe a search of Australias prison system is in order? Might be a good spot to pick up some mongrel forwards….assuming they are due for release soon that is....

what do you mean by searching a us college?

are you talking about kids currently on american football teams or rugby players .

if you are talking about kids playing ncaa football.forget it.
getting a free education and playing in front of 90k lunatic fans or try and break into league and play in front of 10k.
ahh nope.

as for rugby players, doubt you will see a return on investment.

how about we do it simple and drop players who show poor form.
use a proper bench rotation.
and stop changing 5 players positions to cover 1 injury loss.

think that would be easier and more effective.

Just trying to think out side the box….
Would even South African rugby or UK rugby be worth poking around?

Thinking outside the box is what got us into this position.

What we need is to relieve pressure off our salary cap so we can pick up a couple good buys early on. Ie. A halfback.
I don't think we'll have much luck in the US. Try super league? A couple gooduns are off contract end of year.

Not cheap, so the risk does not outweigh the reward. A good Curry Cup player, but outside the "super" system or below the top European leagues still earns $50k, and those players are well down the totem pole, unless we could sell on "lifestyle"

IMO there are more efficient ways to get players.

Like what?

im doing a semester in the US. been here 3 weeks thus far. signed up to the rugby (union) team, and i am by far and away the best player (and our team apparently won the south east division last year!). this isnt to talk myself up, because i am a very average footy player in Aus, but honestly, i highly doubt there would be any talent over here

If it was me I would be setting up scouts in American Samoa

Some monsters over their and the NFL boys are always closely watching for any talent coming through
