Post any pictures of your Dawn Service and Tributes here.

Unfortunately I can't make it to Dawn Service this year.
My thoughts are especially with those who have lost their love ones who served their country.
Australia and New Zealand are fortunate to have and to20220425_043141.jpg have had so many selfless countrymen and women.

LEST WE FORGET

On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind.
As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.
We have many fallen soldiers who never made it back home and are buried in foreign lands.
It's sad that someone's son or daughter never returned.
My prayers this year are for my Granddad Charles WW1~2 and Uncles Barry and Ken, WW2, who are at peace in war cemeteries in Europe and Asia.
Also my father Bryce, WW2 and brother John, Vietnam.
Not forgotten.

Cobarcats,

That is a tragedy for your family. This must be a very difficult day for everyone in your family so best wishes from me. My grandfather used to tell me "old men start wars, young men fight them". The only thing that has changed is young women can now die as well.

For me today is always a day of reflection on the sacrifice that so many people have made so that the rest of us can lead peaceful lives.
Lest we forget

I'm so proud to have just received several pictures of my daughters and one of my grandsons at a Dawn Service.
My grandson borrowed my medals and is wearing them, they are going to march as well.
What an amazing feeling I'm experiencing, it's hard to describe.
I've ordered a duplicate set of my grandfathers medals months ago [but couldn't be made in time]that all the kids can take turns in wearing.
❤️

The Ode
The Ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon and was published in London in the Winnowing Fan; Poems of the Great War in 1914. The verse, which became the League Ode, was already used in association with commemoration services in Australia in 1921.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Quite the line up mate.
May they rest well.

My Grandfather was a private in the 3rd Australian Infantry Battalion which was one of the first Australian battalions to enter the war. He spent some time at Gallipoli but spent the majority of his time at the Western Front. He fought at Somme. During the second World War he was a guard at Cowra during the infamous " breakout". He never spoke much about his service and died when i was about 14. Would have loved to have got to know him better.

Many years ago the graves belonging to an Australian family (husband a soldier, wife and two children) who had been killed when their train was ambushed by Chin Peng's men in Northern Malaya were re-discovered. Their graves had been forgotten and were over grown in the Taiping cemetery. Taiping is the former Royal Capital of Malaya prior to Kuala Lumpur. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission became involved and I am happy it took ownership of their graves I am going back to visit them just to say hello when I return to Malaysia. It has been a while but I have never forgotten them.

I encourage you all to prepare for the 2023 ANZAC Day early.
I've been successful in getting my grandfather's, father's and brother's medals mounted so my grandchildren all have a chance to represent their fallen relatives in the next year's march.
The best thing is I'll be able to march with them all this time.
It is such a bonding and emotional experience and I encourage all of you to do the same if you are able to.
If you have relatives, alive or have passed on, and you would like to march with their medals, there are many companies around Australia that mount medals.
All you have to do us contact the Australian War Memorial and they will advise on how to obtain them.
If you submit the necessary paperwork now, you will receive the duplicate medals in time for them to be mounted and worn for next ANZAC Day. Any later than now and it will be too late.
Of course if you have the originals you can wear them but you must look after them. Once they're gone, they're gone forever.
Remember it's not about you, it's about women and men who died trying to save what core values and beliefs we Australians and New Zealanders had at the time.
This legacy is celebrated today by our freedom. Give them a chance to march, be remembered and to be recognised... that's what it is all about.
To take your children, grandchildren, relatives, partner or mates to a dawn service then to the march is such a selfless act, a memorable and bonding experience.

Peter Jackson has worked tirelessly restoring old film and colorising footage to bring us into the diggers lives as they knew it.
They Shall Not Grow Old is a 2018 documentary film directed and produced by Peter Jackson.
The film was created using original footage of the First World War from the Imperial War Museum's archives, most previously unseen, all over 100 years old by the time of release. Try and see the full doco if you can.
This trailer is very good.
