Are Fifita and Gibbs off to the Sharks?

Gibbs = future origin? You're kidding arent you champ. Brycie has been a great club man but nothing more. Wouldnt complain if we kept him but he would struggle to make most teams 17.

His defensive abaility doesnt make up for his complete inability to challenge the defensive line in attack. Robert Lui and Marshall make bigger dents.

i'd assume he's talking about Fifita as a future origin player

Im with you southern. We cant keep them all and the same supprters that think we can would be the first t whinge if we had to let go of groat or begovich and not sign a MARQUEE player every year.

Adam Blair

Games: 12
Avg Minutes: 73
Offloads: 13
Tackle Breaks: 14
Tackles: 263
Total Runs: 113
Total Metres: 751

Andrew Fifita

Games: 12
Avg Minutes: 40.8
Offloads: 4
Tackle Breaks: 67
Tackles: 330
Total Runs: 128
Total Metres: 1022

I know stats only tell part of the story….but its fairly impressive for Fifita.

Oh. Thats confusing because nobody is happy to see AF go. His comment seemed to suggest people were okay with Fifita's departure.

That's tim sheens for you. Why would we resign Fulton and Gibbs in the first place

What's the story ? Did he say he was going to the Sharks? Was he having dinner with the Sharks coach? Was he wearing a Sharks tracksuit? Did he order Shark?

Give us something.

   in hard times, that made me laugh

This is the player market cycle this is what keeps crap clubs at botoom of table . They pay overs for Fifita and then the overall squad suffers . We try and keep a good overall squad so good luck fifita always preferd Woods to Fifita in the under 20's ppl only remember Fifita making the big plays when woods did all the hard work !. Remeber when we payed overs for T Hill Mccracken Craigie and so on . Wayne bennett would not chase fifita for what i expect Sharks would have to pay or maybe hes going for he challenge of a struggling club . He will get a taste ofthe cronulla lifestyle and the cash and footy will be a hobby for him i reckon .

2 things

1\. It said above that Gibbs is official - where is this official announcement ?

2\. If Fifita is so amazingly awesome why are the sharks (worst team in the comp) the only ones chasing him

I reckon there would be more than 1 club after Fifita. He looks at this point like a prop who could really help lead a team.

It's not just the Sharks who are interested in him, but consider this, with Douglas and Snowden both gone for next season, that leaves the Sharks without a starting front row and seriously cashed up. They had $400k set aside for upgrading Snowden so of course they have plenty of cash to get a good front rower.

Thats all true Willow, but the apparent facts seem to be that:

The Tigers are paying a squillion dollars for Blair and
Fifita was signed to the Tigers for next year and so has been released by the club

So in my book all that has happened has been within the Tiger's control and its not down to the Sharks being cashed up.

Not sure if anyones mentioned it but on my league central app, which is basically the daily telecrap, it states Fifita has signed with the Sharks already. Not gospel I know but the next best thing.

Don't get the logic behind it. Obviously it will free up cash for Blair but is he that good that we lose our best prospect in a forward since skando and o'neill!!

had dinner, Andrew was there and its not good news.

That sucks but its the nature of the current salary cap. We paid overs to get Galloway a few years ago and the Sharks seemed to have returned the favour with Fifita.

It all comes down to supply and demand. Cronulla are absolutely desperate for props - they're 2 starters are leaving and there isn't much else. Gibbs and Fifita are (sort of) available - well they have permission to shop themselves around. Now if Cronulla are prepared to pay Fifita 350k (or whatever) what are our options?

1\. Match that amount and risk not having enough money for other players
2\. Do the sums, realise the price is well above what his actual worth is, and let him go.

Now it's easy to say Blair will cost 500k so 350k should be easy to find. Well not exactly - the Blair contract from my understanding will feature a lot of 3rd party money. So basically the same salary cap money could buy Adam Blair (a test forward rated as one of the best in the world) or Fifita (an extremely promising prop who may or may not kick on as a player).

Bear in mind as well that aside from Fifita and Gibbs (and Payten) we have KG, Woods, Groat, and some other young guys. So potentially we are looking at a starting rotation of:

Galloway
Farah
Woods
Ellis
Blair
Heigington

With BMM, Groat and others for the bench.

Yeah I hope we keep Fifita but with a salary cap these are the tough calls a club needs to make. Anyway we'll see what happens.

RT @CharlieBubba71: Sad day for the Tigers, losing Gibbo is a disaster for the club on many fronts. He is a funny bugger and a quality c …

Saw this on the Yahoo sport page, I guess it's true then. Don't know what the rest of the tweet says - I don't go on twitter, but I imagine someone on here would? Don't like that Robbie says it's "a disaster for the club on many fronts" - what does that mean??? No mention of Fifita though.
