Still have a decent squad of forwards next year

Galloway
Woods
Blair
Ellis
Hieghno

It is highly likely you will need to scratch another one of those names off your list.

Absolutely disgusted in you WestsTigers!! I hope your office was turned upside down today!! And sack your stupid accountant while you're there!! :rant

Who else is likely to be given a hessian bag? Surely McKinnon, Payten, Fifita and Gibbs would free up enough coin 😕

Sorry Willow but i am not at liberty to say right now.
But all i can say without breaching my confidence, is that one off boonboon's list, plus another backrower, plus an outside back may also be on the cards are highly likely at this stage.
Over the cap by at least $1m for next yr.
Wiping out half the squad for one player to get under is their mentality..

I suppose we need to wait and see what the final outcome is before venting spleen, but, as they say where there is smoke there is fire and I dont much like the look of the smoke signals. Blair is absolutely not worth losing two and potentially more of our current crop of forwards for.

Fifita was extended for 2012 by our club…...i.e. he's under contract.......so, can anyone explain to me how he's "a done deal" to the Sharks?????

What am I missing here?

The club is essentially allowing him to have a look around, and if he can get more money and wants to leave, they won't stop him. That's my take on it.

The club rudely didn't take up his option. Like i said earlier, a slap in the face for the hard work he has put in.

Is this taking into account that Daniela, Flanagan, Moors and Brown are all off contract? Utai is also off contract, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers try and keep him for another year.

None of these you mention are even in the equation right now. The ones who are, are in last Monday's starting 17.

If this is true, I am shocked.

Surely, Blair is not worth going through that much trouble.

Humprhey's held a press conference that said we DID take up his option???

Crouching Tiger…......can you comment on the below article. Either you are making crap up or Humphreys is.

ARTICLE

Another piece of good news for Wests Tigers is the extension given to prop Andrew Fifita following an agreement between Andrew and the Club to exercise an option in his current contract for the 2012 season.

Fifita, 21, has been a revelation for Wests Tigers since making his NRL debut in Round Two last year after joining the Club from Griffith Waratahs. Like Woods, he too was a member of the NSW Emerging Blues squad.

His mobility, hard work and offloads have seem him develop into a regular member of the Wests Tigers forward pack. Fifita has played 31 NRL matches for Wests Tigers and represented Tonga last year.

“I’m enjoying my footy here at Wests Tigers and I’m learning every day. We have a good squad here so it is exciting to know that I will be apart of that for a while yet,'' Fifita said.

Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said that it was important to secure Woods and Fifita for a longer period, especially after both players progression through the Club’s development system.

“Aaron and Andrew are showing maturity beyond their years and are perfect examples of the depth we now have throughout our player roster,” Humphreys said.

“They’ve both had a lot more game time this year which will only benefit their development and the Club in the long run."

Cronulla Sharks on verge of signing four big names

**THE struggling Cronulla Sharks are on the verge of announcing four major signings for next season including boom Tigers forward Andrew Fifita.**
>
**Fifita's Tigers teammate Bryce Gibbs,** Parramatta halfback Jeff Robson and Knights hooker Isaac De Gois are also headed for Shark Park.
>
The Daily Telegraph understands all four players have agreed to terms but the club is reluctant to be caught out with another "Kade Snowden" type announcement until all contracts have been signed.
>
**The Sharks are using funds freed up from the departures of props Luke Douglas to the Titans and Snowden to Newcastle to rebuild their front-row with the two Wests Tigers players.\
\
Fifita is a sensational prospect who played City-Country this year and who recently agreed to a 12-month contract extension at Leichhardt.**
**Salary cap pressure from signing Adam Blair has now forced coach Tim Sheens to release both players.**
>
De Gois will be returning home to Cronulla after three years in Newcastle, where he was signed to replace local legend Danny Buderus.
>
He actually agreed to a new deal under the previous Knights management but the offer was withdrawn by the Nathan Tinkler Group.
>
He was part of the Sharks' 2008 team under Ricky Stuart which finished equal minor premiers with Melbourne Storm and eventual NRL champions Manly.
>
In a further boost for the Sharks, Newcastle Knights boom forward Mark Taufua has also agreed to a two-year deal.
>
Four of Cronulla's outstanding Toyota Cup prospects have also signed new contracts - Chad Townsend, Tyrone Peachey, Sione Masima and Tokerau Raru.
>
Local junior Townsend, who made his first grade debut on Friday night against the Broncos, has signed on for a further two years. He's such an outstanding prospect that Robson from Parramatta will be flat out getting the half-back jersey from him.
>
The Sharks have also not ruled out offering an early release to struggling back-rower Anthony Tupou, who is soaking up $400,000 of the salary cap.
>
He is under contract until the end of next season.

I wonder if that will be the official take on it.

I hate the way contracts are not worth peeing on these days, by players & clubs alike

The only commitment these days is from the fans, and without us there is no game. It stinks.

The NRL ,Clubs and the people who own the TV rights don't give a toss about the fans . As long as we are paying too much to be members ,too much for jersey, too much for the privilege of watching the game , too much for the food and beverages and too much for the rights to watch on TV all is ok .
They don't even have the respect to play two games live on free to air . If I treated the customers I get like that my business would be dead and buried very quickly .

hmmm if that Tele article is accurate, I'm not all that happy about losing either really, especially Fifita.

//Salary cap pressure from signing Adam Blair has now forced coach Tim Sheens to release both players.//

Can't they do math? surely they would have worked out what was what BEFORE and seeing how much they could then spend?

This is a classic example of why I believe the mechanics of the salary cap are in dire need of a change. There needs to be an exemption from the cap for players who have played through a club's junior ranks and brought all the way up into first grade. Players who have served a club since their junior days should never be forced out because of the salary cup. Guys like Gibbs, Fulton and even Adam Blair should be allowed to receive any sort of money from the clubs who developed them without affecting their salary cap. It's just wrong for the player, club and fans. I know that Stephen Humphreys has tabled this idea at a CEO's meeting with the NRL at the beginning of the year. Surprisingly, certain clubs were not in agreement with his idea. They would rather steal players than nurture them. Not too hard to work out who they are.

I like Fifita (a lot), but Blair is a proven performer and would be a good acquistion.

But at what cost? If he gets injured, then u quickly find out.
Losing multiple players for one player is a massive gamble.

Blair is 25, Fifita is 21 (Gibbs 26) - in 4 years we will definitely know whether this was a good move.

For me injuries make the salary cap a massive issue. One injury and all this is for nothing.
\
\
But I am becoming very impaitent with the whole thing..

Adam Blair is a terrific player, and it would be great to see him in a Tigers jersey, buy Andrew Fifita (as well as others) is the future of this football club

Has there even been anything official about the tigers signing Blair yet? Is this a done deal or simple conjecture? I am living in WA and the league coverage out here is minimal at best.
