Ashes 2009

Horrible start to the Lords match. Pitch is placid and flat offering nothing to the quicks. Patience and making it difficult to score is what is needed. Johnson has been poor to say the least. Has bowled short and wide, full and down leg, full on the pads and just overall crap. His action is that of a sling which I don't think is too natural and couldn't keep a straightish arm if he tried. Hilfenhaus is being patient while Siddle is going with the angle. A huge score for England is likely. Strauss looks in good form while Cook looked poor early on but is now looking fluent and strong.

This is pathetic. We're getting tonked. Johnson is getting pounded. Don't know why this is happening considering it's a good bowling deck. I'd say if it were more 'wet' then Hilfenhaus will come into his own.

Pitch is super flat, out-field is fat and no swing for anyone. Batsmans paradise.

0-126 at Lunch. Must be a great pitch to bat on. A lot of runs for the first session on day one of a test. Will be interesting how much the pitch changes over the next few days.

ECB probably made Lords into a road so there would be no result. They lose there all the time.

The pitch may die though so there could be a result. Possibly a few lbw's and bowled via low bourncing stuff and catches in front of the wicket as well. It could spin as well. At the moment its a road.

Hauritz test and series may be over. He just dropped a ball Strauss hammered straight back at him. His middle finger on his spinning hand is either dislocated or broken. North to bowl instead. Anything than go wrong seems to do so.

The way we've been bowling and fielding I hope its a batsman's paradise, id be more worried if the pitch was moving around.

Lmao, Michael Holding: "Bring back the West Indies I say" lol

Wow when I went to bed at 0 for 137 and us bowling like busted's….I didn't think I would be waking up to this

Ravi Bopara lbw b B.Hilfenhaus 18
Kevin Pietersen c B.Haddin b P.Siddle 32
Paul Collingwood c P.Siddle b M.Clarke 16

Well done boys....great fightback on an extremely flat deck.....

This game is certain to be a draw with heavy rain forecast for tonight and steady showers over the rest of the weekend.

Just another example of why England should not host international sporting events.

As for our side, Mitchell Johnson obviously must have some dramas going on off-field because he just isn't his normal self :frowning: , He will come good though, just have to persist with him.

Siddle and Hilfy impressed me, Hauritz I'm still not wrapped on, I'd rather have gone with a 4-prong seam attack at Lord's and brought Stuart Clark in because if Hilfy doesn't find much swing and Johnson is off his game we really have a blunt attack.

England will score around 400'ish and Australia will score around the same and it will fade out into a boring very rain-interupted draw I think…

0-0 with 3 tests to go.

Australia fought back well at the end of the day, at 196-0 you'd think that England would press on because prior to that Australia were bowling balls outside off, harmless short balls etc. i thought Mitchell Johnson bowled solid without being spectacular, Hauritz bowled accurately without taking any wickets, Hilfenhaus was probably the pick of the bowlers with his great line and length I think he took 3 wickets and Siddle bowled steadily taking a wicket or so…..

p.s is there anyone on this forum who is doing fox sports fantasy ashes?

The reason they picked Hauritz is because he can tie one end down; give the quicks a rest, and let them be able to swing the ball at pace in 5-6 over stints…. In India or anywhere else we would look foolish with Hauritz. I like how they ( The Poms) talked up Swann before the 1st test.

Yeah, well I went to bed when it was 0/187\. Thought I was still dreaming when I heard the score in the morning.

Great fightback to take England out for 425\. Could have got it for below 400 with some luck. Match will most likely be a draw anyway with Englands poor weather and this placid pitch. As I type this, Hughes gets caught gloving one down leg side, a typical England wicket.

On Johnson, there are only 3 reasons for his poor bowling. 1 is his personal issues between his girlfriend and mother playing on his mind. 2 is his struggle with the ball. They don't use Kookaburra's over there. 3 is his lost form. Fast bowlers hate rest or the end of a tour when in top form as they can lose it out of no where.

Mitch appears to be suffering from all 3 which means him coming good is unlikely to happen overnight.

Yep i do fox sports fantasy ashes, spewin to because i was gonna put strauss in my team too.

These rain delays are very frustrating and its even more frustrating when sbs shift to the tour de france, even more annoyin hearing macgill say france too.

To me its looking like a draw unless theres a batting collapse by us, i just feel if we lose a wicket here there may be a collapse by us.

We're gone. It's going to take a massive effort from Australia to save this test. England's time wasting tactics in the first test may well be the difference between them winning and losing the series at this rate.

Have faith! 8 wickets!?? How dare they! Time to respond AUS!

**I LOVE WHEN IT GETS TENSSSSSEEEEEEEEE!! :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:**

Rudi should have been axed a couple of years ago, he had some SHOCKERS against India in India, absolute joke of an umpire.

Bucknor was the same in his later years.

You would have to think only the rain can get Australia out of drama now. They were only 2 down when I fell asleep. It must have been a massive last session for England.

Do us all a favour and don't go to sleep tonight?
