Ashley Klein gambling Problems

What's even more concerning is a game like Roblox that is very popular with kids "exposes children to gambling-like mechanics—such as loot boxes, random virtual item purchases, and casino-style mini-games. Extensive research highlights how these “pay-to-win” tactics normalize gambling and deceive young players about the real monetary value of Robux" (uni of Sydney study)
My daughter used to play some online kids game that, if she won one of the little challenges, the 'prize' would scroll down the screen and play a little tune and it looked and sounded exactly like a poker machine. She was about seven at the time. Needless to say I stopped her playing that game.

Gambling today has been normalised as a fun thing to do and has been made so easy to access. When I was young you went to the bank on a Friday arvo and got enough cash out to see you through to Monday. If you went to Harold Park on Friday night and blew your cash , the rest of the weekend was stuffed. Now there is a money machine next to poker machines and online accounts can be available 24/7. I have seen so many lives destroyed by gambling and governments are not willing to make the big calls

What are they ? The overwhelming majority of people I know can have a flutter on the footy or horses , enjoy it and not have it lead to having their lives destroyed…,should they be prevented from that ?

BTW - A lot of people think that gambling is fun …and we have also seen throughout societies that try to prohibit it , it still exists underground in a much more unsafe unregulated manner

I think the advertising shouldn't be there like cigarette advertising
nothing wrong with a better as long as people bet within means
my take is always bet what you are prepared to lose

The Pods and TV programs are another thing altogether...30 minute adverts like Get em onside...i find the analysis they do on games and scoring interesting but i wonder how.much, say Sportsbet...pay Fox to have these shows devoted to their cause.

I resisted getting an app on my phone for a long time it want until i started a work tipping comp i d/l one...i used to drop into a tab on the way home and put on some.multis for that weekends footy...or have a bet while at the pub which wasnt often.

Now with my ATM and a.betting app in my.pocket ...i see how.people can get into deep deep trouble...i remember the old.days too like supercoach recalled...and remenber the novelty of PubTab and SKY Racing in pubs when it first started...before then every local tab was packed in a Sat arvo

You will always have addicts no matter what it is,making something go underground has never worked and just brings in more criminal activity.
I am not saying everything should be completely allowed just regulated.

Yeah ,,it’s kind of where I’m at,,,

i will add though that I’m not a fan of poker machines …and they seem particularly designed to entrap susceptible people .. also they are easily “rigged” to favour the house…the small number of people I know that have had issues it’s been with pokies ..

No one is saying ban gambling, sure going to the clubs with your mates and having a flutter is fine, just like the old ladies who go to the club and blow 20 bucks on the pokies.

What we need is to heavily control the way the industry is grooming the next generation of gamblers and the way they are marketing their products. Of course at the end of the day individuals have the right to gamble but safeguard have to be put in place. It is well documented that the rate of problem gambling is rising at a rapid rate and anything that may slow that down is a good thing. A gambling councillor once told me that a gambling addiction is harder to cure than a drug addiction

So how should they do that ?

As I mentioned and I’m sure you are aware ,,,the govt has done something already to curb advertising from gambling companies… what’s next ?
